Advice on Bathroom Tile Quote, Can I DIY myself
Comments

agree but I am just trying to make sure that mistake which i will make does not cost me a lot in the end.0

If you are not sure of your abilities then you could get the tiling and the shower screen done and do the fixing of the bath and siliconing yourself?
edit: Although that wont save you much money I woudl guess0 -
sorry on a generic question, my low confidence towards DIY could be because I do not much about house structures, how are they build and other basic general knowledge, is there somewhere i can go to learn myself.0

I did a 'General Maintenance' course at my local college - 6 weeks - 2 and a half hours per week.
Learnt how to fit a Yale lock, take off a radiator, fit a TRV, tile and grout a wall and a few other bits I can't remember. Not saying i'm great at it, but it did give me the chance to at least try. I have since done a few jobs which I don't think I would have attempted had I not done the course. Plus it was free!He who laughs last, thinks slowest0 -
gr8....where did you got the course from and how and when...just saw my local colleges no such course

I would give the tiling a try. I know a few people who have tiled without experience, and although it has taken them much longer than it would a professional the results are good. We are planning to tile our own downstairs toilet, we've not done it before but are fairly confident we'll be able to do it.
The advice we were given was to get a good tile cutter. We have borrowed one, but if you don't know anyone with one you could maybe hire one instead.
I got my OH a book on DIY when we first moved in to our house, it is huge and has all the info about pretty much everything. I think it was a good investment (I just went for the one on Amazon with the best reviews).0 -
Oh, and the silliconing, and most of the rest of it - I would have a go. You will not get a perfect result siliconing (I suspect) if you haven't done it before, however the best way to learn is to do it. OH says the best tool to use is your finger to smooth down the silicone - you have to be quite confident. It does come off fairly easy if you need to redo it!
I'm not sure what the mixer tab is, but this and the shower screen may come with instructions for fitting, have a look and see if you think you can do it...0 -

Not recommended in the books...... but we all do it.
But don't wet your finger with 'spit' You get a much better finish wetting your finger in a washingup liquid and water mix. Don't use 'neat' liquid .. dilute.
