Mobiles.co.uk,tips for first contract with them!

Options
Hi, so I'm in the process of buying a Blackberry from mobiles.co.uk, with 10 months 1/2 price redemption offer.

I will be getting my PAC code from my previous O2 deal so I can keep my number.

I've also read some of a VERY long thread or 2 on these forums all abou mobiles.co.uk, BUT some of the processes etc are a bit confusing to someone not experienced with them.

I'd like to know if people have tips/tricks for dealing with mobiles.co.uk to make my life a little easier so I can make sure I get the redemption I'm entitled to. Like are there any problems I should be aware of for changing my number or is it a straightforward process?

Should I use recorded delivery for sending bills off in the post to be redeemed with a receipt of delivery?

Things like that.. plus any other things I should watch out for?

Valium or Diazepam as it is now will help you through this or maybe a large bottle of Scotch ;)

Yes the Quidco enticement of £100 is very tempting and sort of counterbalances the warnings.

I have another friend who wants to take out a contract through them but I fear that they want me to monitor the claims and possibly deal with any hassle that may arise. Current claim is going ok (for another friend), but I am more wary following a few recent threads. Not that the MCOL route worries me except for the time and diary-ing.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone have any recent experience of mobiles.co.uk and settling the Quidco cashback in a reasonable timescale?

    Ive been considering them...

They, like The Phone Spot, e2save and OneStopPhoneShop are all managed divisions of Carphonewarehouse.. and I have had 2 phones of each e2save and Onestop over a 2 year period, and received all my claims without any hitches.. becuase of Quidco as well, I was actually in credit over both periods, as all contracts were full line rental redemptions.

Youve got to remember, like most businesses, they hate giving away money, so as long as you abide by the T&Cs, copy all docs before you send them, and send recorded or rmsd, basincally, dont given them a reason to deny your claim.. things should go ok...

Regrettably, Doc, if only that were true. There are an unacceptable number of posts on this forum that give contrary experiences, particularly in the last 6 months - or so it seems (I had better add that rider in case I get flak from certain quarters)

What you say about keeping copies of the t&c in force at the time of purchase, adhering strictly to the dates for claiming and the correct bills, sending with proof of delivery is all good advice, but it seems that there are a percentage of legitimate claims that are being denied and, with a hard-to-contact, uncooperative Customer Services department, when things go wrong, potential buyers need to be prepared to either write off their cashback or take it to law.

Luckily, OP seems to have done some research on this forum and is aware of potential pitfalls, hence the question.

This is the main gist of things with Mobiles.co.uk. I would never ever suggest the former and write off any cashback, but can only assume their antics are meant to deter/frighten customers from challenging them.
It probably will never ever get to the court stage IF all the T&C's have been followed correctly, it will/should be sorted once action has been taken - and past posts show this may very well be necessary.

Amazingly this company has just settled my 1st claim very, very quickly - so it can be done.
E2save (same group) also have been very good (with myself) of late in settling cashback claims - another one going in very soon.

Strange as it may sound, but Mobiles.co.uk is one of the "safer" companies being part of CPW. You just may need to jump through a few hoops and understand how to pursue if it goes "iffy".

I am aware of an unpaid legitimate cashback claim with E2Save very recently - so beware the silence of the sharks.

Many thanks for the "nod" mj, less than two weeks for claim No. 2.
It may be just me, but I honestly feel that an accompanying letter just to let them know what is "expected" as per their T&C's works.
I do it everytime and it works for me (apart from CNM!!!!!!), just a little prompt to let them know what to expect if needed.
