I am tempted but my uncle sold a car once and the engine blew up a week later. There was nothing wrong with it before he sold it. The new owners kept coming round and threatening my uncle, it was awful.

Does anyone know if you have more haggling room if you do not have anything to part ex?

Not convinced about that, there has to be a reason why every Yaris I meet in a 30mph zone is doing 25mph.

That's 30 by my own speedo and my speedo is at least 3 mph slow to start with.

Maybe its driving slower than you incase of oncoming speed bumps? :p

You can get a better deal on a good small German built Japanes car which will be bigger then the Yaris inside and as reliable. for 07-08 you probably looking at 3.5 to 4k with not much milage.

I give you the Mitsubishi colt

(It is as ugly as any other small car, so not for you if you are bothered by things like such):D

    Get a bigger car, cheaper.

My mrs has a yaris. Brilliant cars. The new models are quite spacious to sit in but very small hatchback space for shopping. Great to drive.

One thing which is right. The speedometer is definitely not right. The one she drives is around 2-3 mph slower. Great though as when you think you over-sped a speed camera, you are actually slower than you think.

Definitely worth the buy. Really reliable.

It is the reliability that is the main factor and secondly cost of maintenance, it's only for me and little one to drive a few miles a day. Test driven a few and big enough for me, looks not a priority.

Had a Colt many years ago, boy haven't they changed! Never even thought about one of those, haven't seen many around. Seem a little bigger than what I want.

If you like the newer Colt then consider the Smart forfour as that is what they are underneath, but with a load of plastic body parts.

My missus looked at one and we where 90% on for buying one but then we thought about fuel consumption as my wife does above average miles, 20k, we also looked at the Colt but they only had the tiptronic auto in diesel. The Clio Dci was also reduced in price and six months newer, with £30 pa roadtax.

They can maybe spot a dangerous driver with a superiority complex from some distance and want their 5 minutes of fame on YouTube :p

My husband had a 1.8SR until a dispute with a lorry and 3 other cars. It stood up pretty well, but he was quite glad to be rid of it. It was a pig to drive. And over speed bumps - eurgh!

The advantage of buying from a main dealer is you get the 12 month warranty thrown in, plus you get rid of your own car without any risk of comeback. Of course you pay extra for all of that, but what's peace of mind worth? On the SatNav, it's nice to have a built in unit, but they don't take a full postcode when entering a destination, the best you can do is get the town by entering the postcode without the last 2 digits, but then need to enter the road name. If you won't use it much that's fine though. Make sure it's got an up to date map because updates are very expensive, like £150 for the latest DVD map. Some later units don't use a DVD, but have it built in somehow, not sure what the update for that costs. Good negotiating point to get the dealer to throw it in with the car though.

The 1.0 seems to get the best reviews. 1.4 Diesel seems to get the worst. I suppose it depends on what kind of roads you drive on though.

The stop/start system doesn't get a good write up. Might be worth skipping that one.
