Toyota Yaris is £7500 too much
I am looking for a small car and quite taken by the Yaris. One I particularly like is a 1.3 SR with extras, toyota basic sat nav, and those plastic bump things on the bumpers and doors!! Immaculate, from Toyota main dealer, 12 months warranty priced £7795. They will give me £2000 part ex on my 53 plate Renault Megane Dynamique with 30k miles and take £5500 payment. Doing a comparison on the web the prices seem to vary from high £6000's to mid to high £7000's. The one I am looking at does appear to be slightly on the high side.
What has made me ask is, my local Hartwell's motor has a 1.4d-d SR, 07 plate, no extras for £5700, 3 month warranty. This seems very cheap so concerns that there is something wrong with it, but doesn't appear to be. They don't really want part ex but would give me £1500-£1700 for mine. Just because of the price of this one it makes me question the 1.3 from main dealer.
Any advice re price, the car itself (if anybody has one) and how to haggle if possible. I am absolutely hopeless!!

Any reason for wanting a "small car"?
I ask because they're at a premium and you'd get a much better car for much less money if you went up a size class or two.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Here are two from the cargiant website.

The price that you are getting on trad-in is also inflated, hence the high sticker price of the car you are buying.
A Megane similar to yours wwent through the auction, main dealer part ex, for under £1500.
What you lose on one you gain on the other.
And main dealers tend to be expensive, but this is only because they offer better trade-in and better after sales. They also have the pick of the stock from head office that they get from closed auctions. Ex management cars usually, on short term lease deals for staff.
Remember to only focus on the price to change, the rest is flannel and salesmanship.0 -
I've got a Toyota Yaris diesel,04 plate.Best car i have ever driven, and i've had a few.Wouldn't part with it.Especially love the dash, and the fact you can see what miles you are doing so accurately.
It is so comfortable and easy to drive. If it was me i would have a better, older model over a newer but more basic one,any day.0 -

Not convinced about that, there has to be a reason why every Yaris I meet in a 30mph zone is doing 25mph.
That's 30 by my own speedo and my speedo is at least 3 mph slow to start with.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Strider 590 - Main family car is a BMW tourer, so I only need a small car, do about 3000 miles year driving to work, childminders etc so want something econimical and above all reliable! My Megane has a recurring a sensor failure problem so want shot of it. Have been offered £2500 private but don't want the hassle of any comeback etc. especially as I know there is a problem.
I appreciate what is being said about actual price to change. If I could get them down to me only having to pay £5300 with trade-in I might go for it but don't really want to pay anymore. Have to see if I can try my luck. Thanks for your help.0 -
There is no comeback from a genuine private sale, if you have been offered £2500 and they have driven and looked over the car and are happy to pay this price then fill your boots, all private sales are buyer beware.
All modern Renaults have little electrical issues like that, tyre pressure sensors and the like, if you have fixed it and it doesn't do it now then sell away, after all you have had the fault fixed, if it reoccurs later on then that is the new owners problem not yours.0
