If this was my son, I would do a Tesco or Asda online shop for him ...pay for it myself and get it delivered to his address. They will do this!

I believe (although I'm not too sure about this) that if you have the account no for his electricity supplier, that you can make a one-off payment to his key meter ...I haven't done this myself, but know someone who reportedly has...

Just done that orderd some food through Tesco - why i didn't think of it earlier i don't know!!

Told him and he's over the moon just going to try and get the electric sorted out now.

Apparently they had given him £51.80 odd and that was suspose to last him untill the 16th November!! so even without losing it i don't know how he was suspose to live on that considering he has to take £5 a week out of it towards his rent money - so basically £36.80 divided by three weeks = £12.26 odd per week and £6 of that a week to be for electric meter??

    its totally beyond me !!

Most electricity providers have £5 emergency on the key when the actual credit runs out.

Have a look at the Old Style Board. there are people feeding a family on not much more than he has per week and you might be able to pass on some tips to him.

He has to put money onto the electric key and its working out at just under a pound a day that hes using, i don.t know if thats excessive or not - but hes not using any heating, he said he tried it once but his total on the key meter went down too quickly, so doesn't want to turn it on.

Just had a look at this and its great - thanks - i deal for me as i have a cooker and am a bit older n wiser than my son, so am quite able to adapt recipes etc, but he only has a bog standard microwave and a toaster - no cooker im afraid!!
Im going to be making him up pots of stew etc that he can put into his freezer compartment and when im off work next week will be taking a trip up there to see if i can help him sort himself out.

Again on the plus side when i spoke to him tonight he had been into a job agency and was told to go back tomorrow as there is a chance of a job working in a factory - so fingers crossed xx

    Hi

Go over to the Money Saving forum and explain the situation and people will post up microwave recipes for him.

Even if it is only toasted crumpets with microwaved tomato and cheese "pizzas".

He can also microwave potatoes as long as he pricks them first. Nothing like as good as oven baked but edible.

    Does he have a kettle?

    Thanks

This sounds like a serious problem. What is the price per unit?

If he does not get work tomorrow, can you ask him to turn everything off, then turn on each item in turn and see how much electricity it is using?

Does he have energy saving lamps?
