And how much do you want to spend? That's the most critial factor as that will determine what you can get for your money!

Most digi camers will take vids as well as pics, you just need a big enough memory card to hold it, but SD cards are very cheap, most have an LCD screen, but as cameras get smaller so does the screen.

You probably want one that's about 5MP and about 4X optical zoom, I have a 4MP one with 4X zoom and it takes better pictures then my friends who has a 6MP one with 3X optical zoom.

I have an Olympus with an 8X zoom 3m pixal that I bought a few years ago.
I can't remember the price but anyhow I believe the new version has 10X zoom.

Should be worth a look, I bought it from Jessops.

Buy the sounds of the shot you want to take Id go for a Fuji Finepix s5600 there about £150 from currys and other places on the net take lovely shots and have 10 X Optical zoom they are easy to use in auto mode or if you fancy a bit more fun they are fully manual to.
If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

    Hi all
I've been thinking and haved to add the following requirements:

Good zoom (I'm taking it to Australia to Watch Cricket so not all photos will be close up)

    Compact (I like compact things!)

    Many thanks again

I had an Olympus for a few years now and it has an 8X Optical zoom but I believe the updated one has a 10X zoom.
It is not big but not small either.

  • The S5600 seems to be a great camera especially for the price but not compact. My friend has one and speaks highly of it and the pictures ive seen are impressive.

If you need a really long zoom in a compact than the Ricoh Caplio R3 or R4 (7x) are worth considering (from pixmania). But, they are not the best all-round good compacts.

I have had two canon ixus` and cant fault them at all.
