Would you settle for this - foreign object in baby formula

Daisy Flower - it was a piece of white plastic 1cm in length I don't inspect every scoop of powder and it is an easy thing to get buried in the contents. I only noticed it when he started to drink it as it was floating in the milk.
As I have stated before I am not after compensation, I just wanted to gague opinion on whether them sending me 10 pounds worth of 1 pound off vouchers was enough considering they have admitted the piece of plastic came from their machinery.
TBH I am surprised that I am being flamed by some people, for goodness sakes there was a piece of sharp plastic in my baby milk, you'd think people would be sympathetic! Anyone?!0 -
Honestly, if it was me I'd send the vouchers back, telling them you have lost faith in their product and your requesting a refund for your original formula. I'd imagine that they'd follow this up with no complaints.
I don't think you could expect anything more than this though.0 -
I think that you are being flamed because from your first post it suggested that you got your original milk paid for plus more vouchers and you were asking if that was enough as in you wanted more. If that was what you were given then that was reasonable and to ask for more is greedy. Whether you say you want compensation or not, wanting more than what it seemed like you were giving _is_ compensation.
£17 for a faulty pack of milk that didn't do any harm is more than fair.
But a bunch of vouchers that they probably give away for free anyway is not on.
Does it say on the packaging what to do if you are not satisfied? Normally they say to return the item and they'll refund you and your postage. But they haven't even done that!
If you are after more than £17 then I for one am not interested and I'm not surprised if others flame you.
But if all you are after is your money back and maybe an extra token gesture then you have every right to ask for this.
In future I guess my advice is to think about what you have written and consider if it is clear or not.0 -
Thankyou JimmytheWig, I agree that my first post was unclear and did look like I'd received the money back where in fact I had not. I have received 17 x 1 pound off vouchers and considering their milk is 7 pounds per pack I'd have to buy a lot of milk to make my money back!! If I'd had 17 pounds back I'd have been more than satisfied!0

My apologies, I like others read that you got your money back and a voucher to use towards a product, not the £1 of vouchers which frankly is a rubbish gift with the apology. The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!

as others have said - return the vouchers! but also inform trading standards hun. they NEED to know about this as you may not be the ONLY one who has had this problem.
I find it disgusting that they are so unconcerned that you found plastic in the formula that they offered such an insulting amount. but then large firms do this if they think they can get away with it! because if you accept the vouchers then you will go away, shut up, maybe bad mouth them to friends - but their overall sales wont suffer! but, if you report them to trading standards then they have to investigate HOW the plastic got into the product, and it will cost them! and the press may well get hold of the story - and that will REALLY cost them!0 -
Like others have said, I would send the vouchers back, and say that you have lost faith in the company and as a goodwill gesture would like the cost of the original cost of milk back, plus any out of pocket expenses like postage.
This would be a very reasonable request.0 -

That's just what I was going to say
I too, found the original post unclear, imo they should have refunded you for the milk plus postage straight away, I wouldn't have been happy with £1 vouchers. as I wouldn't be using their product againCross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. You should ABSOLUTELY report this to the food standards agency. This is completely unacceptable, a baby could choke and die, thankfully you saw it but there is nothing to say it couldn't happen again to someone else and something like that might not event be detected leaving the parents at fault.
I would probably go to watchdog with it to alert people and to ensure that it is made as public as possible. I would probably phone citizens advice to get their take on it too.
Money is not the issue here, they have not done enough.
Incidentally would be interested to know if the people who flamed you have kids or not. As a mother reading this it made my stomach turn and I really hope that you take this further to minimise the risk of this happening agian.
Well done for keeping your eyes open enough to spot it in the first place!0 -
Bits of machinery should not ever get into food products. Flannel about sieve sizes is just that, flannel.
It must be reported to EH or FSA. They should be recalling that batch of formula in case bits are in other packets and other parents aren't so lucky. They should be looking very closely at their procedures and ensuring that it never happens again.
It will cost them money to do this. Do you really think that they will voluntarily inform the relevant bodies (maybe I'm just cynical).
Also, demand your money back for the tin you bought. Vouchers worth £1 each are no good to you.
Forget writing to their customer services department. Find out who the managing director is and write directly to them. Tell them that you are unhappy with the appology and the vouchers. Tell them that you want a full refund. Tell them that this is a serious matter and must be reported to the proper bodies. You will get a far quicker and far better response. It may sound OTT, but you have obviously not got a good level of service from customer 'services' so it's time to go up a level.
I've done this before (over a faulty dress) and I had the head of customer services phone me and appologise in person. The problem with the dress was then resolved super quick.
A sharp bit of plastic in baby milk is not the trivial matter they seem to have treated it as.If having different experiences, thoughts and ideas to you, or having an opinion that you don't understand, makes me a troll, then I am proud to be a 100% crying, talking, sleeping, walking, living Troll. :hello:0
