o2 Contract just doubled what can I do?

Hi all,

I received my bill from o2 this morning for my monthly contract. I have been paying £20 a month on an 18th month contract which expired in the last week or so. My bill has now to my surprise gone up to nearly £50 a month which I'm not happy about at all. I think that this may be because I've had my discounts taken away due to the contract ending, although I've had no notification of this, even though o2 send me endless marketing emails, texts and I get my bill in my inbox every month.

Do I have any rights/options in getting this amount changed back to the normal £20 amount?

Have you not called O2 or checked your account online ? You need to give more details before anyone can help you.
  • I checked my account online after receiving my monthly bill via email.

I plan on calling o2 but was hoping to find out where I stood on this before speaking to them.

Same thing happened to me yesterday, rang 02 they said we were told about this and it's in their T&C. I'm absolutely sure it was never mentioned. Basically said nothing we can do, if we reduce we loose web bolt on.

If you accept a retentions offer ie: reduction in line rental, it'll only be effective for the length of the contract. After that, normal rates apply.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

What did you see when checking your account online ?

I called o2 today as my contract due for renewal at end of November, they said that the discount I am currently getting will not be renewed as they have new tarrif pricing (previously they would renew discount on renewal of contract). I knew discount was coming to an end as it states on my online account....you can see yours online for sure.

Looks like I will be going to PAYG or gifgaff!
