The world card is widely acknowledge as one of the best cashback cards on the UK market at the moment and has the most competitive APR of all mastercard world cards in the UK.

You have bagged yourself a killer credit card - and by accident.

If I were you I wouldn't be whining, I'd be thanking my lucky stars!

It's not widely acknowledged by me. Nobody but an idiot worries about APR because you never borrow on a credit card, and as others have pointed out the real deal is 0% cash back on the first £1800 and 1% thereafter.

Plus I don't take kindly to people sending me something I didn't ask for, and slapping the charge on from the day the account was opened - before I'd even got the card. Annual fees should be charged from the end of the cooling off period or the first use whichever comes first.

The whole experience had a week old kipper smell to it, and I'd rather go elsewhere.

Agree with this. It's one thing to offer an alternative card from the same family - eg reduced benefits, higher APR etc. But a product with a fee as a substitute for one without.. a so-called upgrade that they won't downgrade. Nah. The real point is they make more out of the World card because of higher charges to retailers. That's the game here.

There is no cashback with the classic card!

Some people can control their finances and pay back any credit expenditure immediately.... reimbursing their credit.

That doesn't exist according to the Capital One managers at the call centre. As far as they are concerned there is no 1% cashback card without an annual fee - and even when you give them the exact URL their cognitive dissonance prevents them from seeing it.

I don't understand the tone on some of the replies to OP. Whether or not it is argued that the card he applied for is the best one (my personal opinion, I would NEVER have a card that charges me an annual fee) he didn't get it anyway and is going to be charged £18 a year for the privilege. Not very MSE!!! Also I thought you could get up to £1500 limit, surely that is plenty for most people? The APR shouldn't really come into it for sensible credit card users.
