Capital One Classic - be very careful

in Credit cards
I applied for the Capital one Classic card via the link on this site last week, and for some reason the site bounced me across to the World card - the one with the £18 annual fee.
All very annoying when the wrong card turned up, and of course talking to Capital One it was all my fault. And they refused to acknowledge that a 1% card without an annual fee even existed on their system.
It may very well have been my fault since I didn't read all the small print in fine detail before I clicked I accept. My mistake for trusting a website.
So if you apply for this card, read the fine detail on their website and make sure that the card you are applying for is the one they are offering you and make sure you save the documents when the site offers you to do so.
Otherwise you too might have your intelligence insulted by over promoted call centre staff. (Although to be absolutely fair they did cancel the card when I asked - after they refused to change the deal over).

Why are you complaining that card has a lower APR0 -
Capital One Classic, is for people with poor credit histories, and offers very low credit limits (£100, £200 etc) why would you want one of those, when you have been accepted for a card that will give you a proper credit limit and lower apr?
I understand wanting the cashback, but when you have such a low credit limit, you are not going to be able to spend enough on it to make it worthwhile.Debt free and staying that way! :beer:0 -

Completely agree with you on this one.0 -

The world card is widely acknowledge as one of the best cashback cards on the UK market at the moment and has the most competitive APR of all mastercard world cards in the UK.
You have bagged yourself a killer credit card - and by accident.
If I were you I wouldn't be whining, I'd be thanking my lucky stars! :beer:Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Capital One/ All card companies reserve the right to supply an alternative card dependent on information reported on your credit file.

And I fail to see why others think his new card is better. OK he still gets cashback but the £18 is like losing out on cashback for his first £1,800 of spending every year. Who cares if the APR is better, thats irrelevant if you are sensible and pay off in full.0 -
Yes but surely they shouldnt just swap someone so they get charged an unexpected fee without warning them first?

But surely the whole point of having a cashback card is that you can actually spend a fair amount on the card to get the cashback.
Youre not going to get much cashback with a £200 credit limit, which is the kind of limit the Classic card offers. If you had a credit limit of say £2000, you could do all your monthly spends on the card for the cashback, then use your salary to pay it off in full, then it would be worthwhileDebt free and staying that way! :beer:0 -

Anyway surely you can spend as much as you like on it if you pay early?
Personally I already have a card that gives me 2% on supermarkets and petrol, so I only want this for the other stuff that it currently only gives 0.5% for. I will be fed up if it will cost me £18 fee, I would have to spend £3,600pa on it before I saw a benefit.0 -
If you have a good enough credit rating dont they give you the £1500 limit right away? I was assuming £200 was only for the sort of person who would have previously gone for the Classic because that was all they could get.
