  • Had laser eye assessment and it isn't suitable for me :(
However I need to wait a while until prescription stabilises and then might be able to have contact lenses implanted permanently :) this is much more expensive than laser surgery at about £6,000 :(

The good news for the mortgage is today I made our first OP! Any OP's recorded up to now have only been into savings account as can't actually make an OP until have at least £1,000. Basically total of OP account and laser eye fund has gone towards the mortgage - £2,049.03 :j This will take 6 months off the mortgage.

I decided with DH to make that payment and the start saving more towards OP and possible eye surgery from 2011. I figured best to make OP whilst we have the money, day to day we are doing ok financially so can afford to put that towards the mortgage. We do still have approx £5,000 in an ISA for emergencies, so not savings less at least.

    Have a good Sunday everyone.
    Mortgage = £270,000
    Grateful ❤️
  • Well done on the OP Annabeth!!
Sorry the eye surgery cant be done at the moment, can you still wear contacts etc? Hopefully they can come up with something in time that will suit you and be ok for your eyes!

I'm a fan of glasses rather than laser eye surgery. I guess that if you take the long view laser surgery is more MSE as I buy glasses every couple of years but it just has no appeal to me. I can't even manage contacts :rotfl:

  • Morning.
I wear a combination of glassess and contact lenses that can continue until I think about going back for another assessment.
Amazed by my own OP. So busy generally feel out of control with work, uni work and everything else so nice making progress in one area!
DH reminded me procrastination is the thief of time. About time I steal some of that time back!

Like that saying..will remember that one..OH basically lives by a maxim of why do anything today that you can put off until tomorrow...! Needless to say I am the opposite!!!

Am thinking about the laser surgery myself but bit freaked by it tbh also after having worn CLs for about 20 years it's a routine I guess I can cope with.

I'm not convinced my DH lives by his own sayings! He can be in your husbands camp at times however yesterday he was off sick and did do lots of washing up and hung the washing load up I asked him to do. Very crumpled but won't complain!

Think laser eye also depends on how bad eyesight is I'd love to be able to open my eyes and see in the morning! Will be carrying on as I am for a while yet though so will see how I go.

    Have a good day everyone!

Mortgage OP didn't go through online apparently we haven't got the right type of mortgage for internet payments.
DH made the payment this avo on the phone instead.
It's instantly reduced our repayments to £842.11 a month which is a reduction of £11.12 not bad, quite happy with that, off to update signature!

  • Yay. So next times overpayment is going to be £11 plus whatever. Thats a great way of seeing how your overpayments are working.
  • Thanks Michelle. Yes I like the way that will work feels like making even more OPs without trying now £11 will be the smallest we can make now which will be better than nothing even on a tight month!

Planned to go to the gym tonight, horrendous snow is back though so a night in.
DH had a freebie football match to go to which has been cancelled due to the snow.
Hope everyone is safe and warm DH not home yet and he's not answering phone so hopefully he's fine just still at work. Roads are horrible, lots of accidents at work cars being pulled out of ditches!
Have a good weekend everyone x
