Slow Payers

Do they generally turn into non payers? I don't understand why someone waits till the last minute to bid and then doesn't pay at once.

I'm currently waiting for payment on two items which ended two days ago and so far no contact from either buyer.

Do you think ebay allows them too long to make their payment? Four says before you can open a dispute and then another 4 days to wait.

In my experience non payers always ignore any contact.

I think 8 days in total is about the right amount of time for a buyer. I tend to just send an invoice after auction ends, then a reminder on about day 3 or 4 and open the nPB a day after that. A few of my regular buyers (Australians) routinely take 3 or more days to pay and I tend not to even worry for 3 days or so.

I often also get people paying after I open the NPB, but again at least they've paid.

  • I had a 7-dayer this week... then opened two NPB (one for each item they won)... then they paid pretty darned quickly and left good feedback. So don't panic, some people just need a nudge.

  • I have had a few sellers who've taken a while to pay me.

Usually, if their feedback is good, then I'll wait until they make the payment. Some people don't check their e mails everyday etc and I don't like to send reminders in case I get a negative.

The one thing I find most annoying about slow payers is slow payers who then mark me down on delivery time.

Buyers' feedback can only be 100% so don't be fooled by feedback. I think that the only reason eBay still have feedback for buyers is that it encourages them to leave it for sellers in a wholly irrational, psychological way. If they can get a little mark on a chart, they will mark others' charts where it is more reasonable to need information.

Personally I also get frustrated, but it's not worth getting upset about it. It's annoying but since eBay's systems permit non-payment, it's an occupational hazard and going to happen sometime. And the dispute process is much shorter now :).

Because they probably used a snipe and weren't at their computer.

Also you haven't got anything stupid like they must pay within 24 hours in your listing. Those sort of things make people take their time paying.
  • depends on feedback
i give them a 4-day leeway reminding every day until it comes to a unpaid item case

Don't you think they might consider that as harrassment though?

Excessive and likely to irritate the buyer into giving you some unpleasant feedback and paying so it may not be removed.

A reminder on day 3, a dispute on day 4 and closing the dispute without further contact should be OK. If they really are not replying then it's always better to let sleeping dogs lie.

The only person that is worrying about it is you so to dispose of it as quick as you can and to move on, get your fees back and relist is far better for you in the long run than worrying about non-payers.

Well I know what my DSR on communication would be.
  • I have had two lately, one was sending a cheque (don't accept them anymore!!) and promised it had been posted, kept sending me emails asking where the item was, she sent me the tracking number of the cheque which never arrived so I relisted.

Another I emailed after 2 days, again after 4 then second chanced it on day six, only to receive an email saying her husband had been in hospital. Well, he wasn't too ill for her to bid on it so why not pay straight away!??
    I always pay immediately.
