Get him an old rear wheel drive Ford, preferably a 3.0/2.8 Capri, let him loose on a wet rd ...........

I remember it well. You can't drift a ford ka, no doughnuts, no fun being young now.

Insurance, however, would be another matter entirely...

Biggest problem is . if you have a classic policy at 17 yr old
when in 4 yrs for example time you decide to have a newer car on proper insurance
most companies won't accept you previous insurance as proof of no claims because it is a classic policy

I'm pretty sure there are some classic car policies that allow commuting (ours does) and don't have a mileage limit.

Proper cheap classic policies will have lots of restrictions but costs peanuts, Do not require any no claims discounts either.

But they also do not accrue any transferable no claims discounts. I have insured all sorts of classic cars, All fully comp insured
with agreed value and salvage rights for less than £100 a year.

These type of policies are not for the younger drivers, Pretty sure all mine were 25+. Also couldnt add my wife as a provisional holder.
