I had a silent night for many years. I guess it depends on weight but they should last you quite a while. I think they say you should change your mattress after ten years.
Did you turn it much during use, when we had a sprung mattress I would rotate it one time and flip another just to ensure even wear on the mattress.Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -
yes once a month i do an airing and a flip - theres not much weight on it because my partner is about 8 stone nothing and im not too big though im not saying how big lol.....my partner is disabled and is suffering now because of the springs sticking out.....the sooner i can buy a new one the better...0

I replaced my sprung mattress for a memory foam mattress, worst thing we ever didOurs is a full deep memory foam mattress and we have both had more aches and pains since buying it.
Because they mould to your shape you tend to move less which means you tend to stay in one place, not a good thing. I have woken up many a morning with a really sore back. They are very hot to sleep on as well.
When our daughter moves out (sometime next year I thiink) we will move this mattress into the spare room and go back to a sprung one.Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -
A good mattress should last a good 10 years if looked after properly. However this isn't the case with many of the big brands now (especially the Silentnight group, which includes Sealy, Rest Assured, Layezee, Pocket Spring Bed Company, and Steans & Foster). Silentnight used to be a good brand, as did some of the others in the group. However cutting production costs seems to have had a detrimental effect on the quality and reliability. The Miracoil spring system (or posturetech in a Sealy) is a continuous spring system that most manufacturers used to use, but stopped using to to it being so unreliable and noisey.
You have actually done well to get your Miracoil mattress to last 3 years.
You should turn your mattress on a regular basis in order to prolong the life, which is why non turn mattresses aren't a good idea.
As for the memory foam mattress that Meadows had, it would have been reflex foam with memory foam on top. You wouldn't have encountered the same problems if it had been sprung with a 2" layer of memory foam on top.
If I were you I would stay away from big brand names and big chain stores if you want good quality at a low price, and shop on line from a seller who gives a good returns policy that allows you to actually unpack and sleep on the mattress. This way it is in their interest to make sure that you make the right choice the first time.0 -

That's also a con.....all products must have a design life, and if within that design life they need replacement or repair due to materials or workmanship, then the manufacturer must pay towards the cost. So all they are doing is complying with the law, but using it as a form of advertising.
You will also notice that you have to buy the complete divan set from them.
In my experience many people are so dissapointed with the quality that they don't want to take them up on their warranty anyway.0 -

Yes I know they did. There was a lot of discussion about turning them in the thread which is why I made the statement that you only quoted half of:
"You should turn your mattress on a regular basis in order to prolong the life, which is why non turn mattresses aren't a good idea."0 -
