Practical driving test didn't happen - now what?

  • I'd accept the instructor's offer of paying for the test. But I wouldn't ask them to give extra lessons for free.

As you don't know if you would of passed or not, therefore requiring more lessons. Also more lessons will give you more experience anyway.

Good instructors, and ones that you get along with are hard to come by. So I wouldn't want to fall out with them at this stage.

Not having a jack in the car for a professional driver is unacceptable IMO. I really think they should make it law for a car to carry all the necessary equipment to change a tyre.

It could be possible that they did have this with them, but you cannot take a driving test on a spare tyre.

Why?, my spare is the exact same tyre as the other 4.

You can if it's a full size one (and the same as the other tyres). Only spacesavers are prohibited.

Of course you can, as long as it is legal and the same as the other wheels/tyres on the car.

    Most?

Some modern cars (especially smaller ones) have silly spares or worse a can of foam, but I'd say it's a long way off most.

Whilst I very much doubt it'd be ok to take a test with a space saver wheel, I truly doubt there is anything about using a proper spare* - as long as it is legal (correct tread depth, not damaged).

*As in the type found in almost all older cars, and many/most modern cars.
  • It's not just small cars with silly space savers. A BMW saloon passed me on the M62 this week with a space saver on.

    Rather them than me! :D
