I spend most of my working life playing games with 3 year olds! Popular games are ones where 'something happens' - things like 'Pop-up Pirate' by Tomy and 'Monkey Business' by ELC. 3 year olds also enjoy simple matching games like lotto or pairs.

Some of the Orchard Toys games are lovely for this age group. Ones I use a lot are the Shopping List game and Tummy Ache. Greedy Gorilla is also popular with the boys. It's similar to Shopping List but you have a healthy menu to collect and you get to post the junk food into the gorilla who then burps loudly! They also do some really simple games for very young children including a nice colour lotto game, Incey Wincey Spider (spider moves up or down the drainpipe depending on the weather) and the Humpty Dumpty Game (a bit like Beatle Drive, spin the spinner and collect bits of 'Humpty' to join together).

I also have to put in a word for 'Match a balloon' by Ravensburger, it's a colour matching game, I love it mainly because it features Miffy! (just looked this up on Amazon and am saddened to see that the current version features Disney Winnie the Pooh instead, it's just not the same!)

DD had a Sally the Sunflower game for her 3rd bithday which she loves. Basically you have 10 magnetic bees which you have to take turns in trying to stick on the sunflower. Our main reason for getting it was because DD was terrified of "busy bees" and it has helped.

And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end

We have started playing Uno with our 3 and 2 year old. To get the 3 year old used to numbers and colours for the 2 year old (she helps mummy). We kind of use very basic rules but they both love it and a pack of the Uno cards was about 2.00 from Tesco.

  • favourites here are Orchard toys, the shopping game and big bad wolf, Cariboo, and Balamory build a character game.

Buckaroo and pop up pirate are big brothers but we do get them down for secret plays when he is in school.

mine loved jigsaws most of all at that age.

Pop up pirates is good, and connect 4- you'll be surprised how quick she gets the hang of it,and you're no longer 'letting' her win:D

Cariboo is a big hit although shame they don't make replacement cards for whenthe ones that come with it get too easy.

Also connect 4 and fraustration loved at 3 years.

Boots have own brand versions of popular games for a good price as do sainsburys
MTC NMP Membership #62 - made it back to size 12 after my children & I'm staying here!

Tesco Direct have free P&P until Sunday, and the "Buy 2 get cheapest free" offer until 23 Oct on selected board games (probably suitable for older children though), from memory the games are:

    Junior Monopoly
    Junior Cluedo
    Twister
    Buckeroo
    Operation
