Have you tried booting it in safe mode (with networking) to see if you can browse then?

    morning busenbust.

i tried both of those ideas last night, but nothing worked.

I clicked the 'diagnose and repair' option and got a message back, something like "cannot connect to primary dns server (with some numbers i cant recall)".

so in a desperate attempt to get it working i googled this phrase (using my ethernet connection) and found people are having similar problems with vista. The thing that people suggested that seemed to work was going to control panel - network connections - manage connections, then right clicking on the connection, going into properties and ammending some Internet protocol TCP code. I thought i would try this but when i went into 'manage connections' there are no connections there. I know i would have never have gone in there before and edited/deleted anything, so i'm pretty confused!

i really dont want to resort to paying for assistance, but it's looking like i may have to!

In Vista, there should be a Manage wireless networks in the control panel area you were looking at. Maybe that's where your connection details are. If that's empty, there is an option to add a wireless network that's in range.
