Just tried it it shows approx £100 discount (ie £50 each) but I'm not sure if I could build up another 1000 points/miles in a short period of timeto get to 4000 points/miles.
Do you know if you can have just a discount for just one person (ie using 2000 of the 3000 given with the Virgin credit card)?
personally i would not bother . join the flying club , collect the miles from this flight and then use them for a discount next time .
BTW i also think £500 is a not to bad price . before all the extra tax and duty , price of fuel rocketing , economy falling off a cliff , and icelandic Volcanos we payed £340 each and that was rock bottom .
i checked flights a few weeks before we left and price had shot up to £900 each . the fuller the plane the more expensive the seats will get . but i would keep close tabs on flights before xmas as they often have sales then .Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
You can get a Miles plus Money fare using 2000 miles per person which should reduce the total fare by about £50. You can check those fares on the website although you may have to be signed in as a flying club member
you need previous booking history to book these type of fares with Virgin i believe .
unless they have changed it back .Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
I am currently in LA and I flew in yesterday from Heathrow with Air New Zealand. I booked these flights in February for just under £375.00 (economy) and you can select your seats for free once you have received your reference number.
I also had a generous 2X 23kg (46kg total) luggage allowance and there is a 34" seat pitch which is more favourable than BA or VS.
Flights were direct, there were two meal services and a free bar so overall, it was very good value.
I would expect that you will get a better price than what you have been quoted but just keep checking.0 -

Just my luck when I decide to have holiday of my life, flights are most expensive ever:(
BA just launched sale though;), which is till March 2011, some good prices there(LA on 4-11Nov for £403), but I need April-May.
Do you think we should wait to book as well as OP?Best wins ever:
2012: Holiday to LA for 2 adults +2 kids for 4 days
2013: £2 000 Virgin Holiday Voucher!
2014: $1000 spending money for hols
2015: 8 night holiday to Thailand0 -

ATM Air New Zealand are about £300 more than Virgin and BA. I did check their prices and a couple of months ago seemed to be the cheapest, not so now unfortunately......0 -
Flights will be more expensive anyway from the 1st of November as the 50% rise in air passenger duty kicks in, I think that equates to £50 more on a west coast flight. booking now for a flight next year won't save anything as it retrospective. The last hike was again on the 1st of November, there was a lull in collecting the additional tax namely those flights after the 1st Feb following. The airlines had to contact ticket holders for the extra tax. B.A. absorbed the increase at a cost of some £3m, V.A. collected it but if you paid online before going to the airport they gave you a £30 voucher to put towards your next flight.
This was a raise that the old Labour government put in motion that the coalition didn't see the need to change.0 -

You are right as I have noted that ANZ are usually more expensive than their rivals on this route, however, I was notified of the sale in which I booked this flight by subscribing to their mailshots.
Sure, these can fill up your spam filter, but occasionally it pays off.0 -
