London to Los Angeles (or Vegas) Sep 2011 Flights

I am looking for flights to Los Angeles (or Las Vegas) for September next year. I am currently considering departing Thursday 8th Sept or Thursday 15th Sep, for 2 weeks.
Currently looking at BA and Virgin's websites prices are (in total for 2 people return to LA) about £1,046. I have also looked at AA, United and Air New Zealand.
Does anyone have any hints tips on getting the best price for flights? I am fairly flexible but Wednesday or Thursday Flights are preferred.
Thanks for your help

2012: Holiday to LA for 2 adults +2 kids for 4 days
2013: £2 000 Virgin Holiday Voucher!
2014: $1000 spending money for hols
2015: 8 night holiday to Thailand0 -
You're looking too early. Look next May or June.0

I would wait a while, try in the new year when some of the airlines have their sales.0

How much might I envisage saving by waiting till the new year or May/June?
I have signed up to email updates from BA, Virgin and Air New Zealand.
I am looking at a few nights at the Grand Canyon and apparently these need to be booked early......0 -
Also I see that if I get a Virgin Credit Card I can get 3000 "Flying Club Miles" but don't seem to be able to easily find what these "miles" will buy me.
Resding the small print / Ts & Cs I see this:
j) Each sector of Miles Plus Money Mixed itinerary fares will be charged at half the price of the round trip fares.
So this means to me that on person on one leg will get a half price fare, but then taxes aren't going to be be reduced! hmm complicated......0 -

You may not save anything by waiting. If you want a direct flight I would suggest just over £520 each is a good price. There were very few direct flights available at that price this year and from next month taxes are going up.
Not sure why Cubegame suggests waiting. If all the cheap seats have gone you will pay more and if they havent my guess is you wont save more than a few pounds0 -

You can get a Miles plus Money fare using 2000 miles per person which should reduce the total fare by about £50. You can check those fares on the website although you may have to be signed in as a flying club member0 -

Thanks for the info.
Just tried it it shows approx £100 discount (ie £50 each) but I'm not sure if I could build up another 1000 points/miles in a short period of timeto get to 4000 points/miles.
Do you know if you can have just a discount for just one person (ie using 2000 of the 3000 given with the Virgin credit card)?.....0
