Hi I need some help in deciding what to do about VM and Sky.
I have Sky downstairs with a HD+ box, sky sports package and ESPN which I currently pay £61 a month for.
Upstairs I have a standard Virgin media box with Small TV package, 10meg broadband and a landline which I pay £25 a month for including line rental.
I am due to move into my new house and when I move I only want to have one of these companies supplying my broadband, tv and phone line.
Does anyone have any ideas what the best thing to do..Dont want to ring them yet as I am not sure what way to play it and not sure when I will be moving exactly.
Any ideas greatly appreciated.

I have a similar query so would like to piggy back on your thread.
We have a Sky+ TV Package, which we like, and get our telephone and broadband from Virgin. We also have a basic Virgin TV box in the bedroom because it was free with the phone and broadband.
Would we be better off switching everything to Sky, even though it would mean that we have to get BT to install a new landline to do so?
Apologies for being dense on this but its all rather confusing.0 -
If broadband is most important, virgin, sky is better for TV. Im guessing they will pricematch eachother0

From my perspective Sky TV is far superior to Virgin. Virgin broadband is good, but Sky broadband gets good reviews too and would meet my needs. Home phone I don't use much anymore due to mobile inclusive minutes.
If the OP shares this view then drop Virgin and stick with Sky.
I think my dilemma will be resolved by sticking with the current set-up of both, but getting Virgin to price match Sky's inclusive package. Then I get the benefit of shifting without the inconvenience - if they won't price match, then I just have to suffer the inconvenience.0 -

Its hard to say in regards to broadband as you dont know exactly what speed you will get from sky.
Personally Broadband is most important to me and the channels I do watch are on virgin, I dont need the GOD channel+1 etc that comes with sky, and i dont wat an ugly dish.0 -
Not sure what your broadband usage will be but remember Virgin throttle file sharing speeds no matter what speed you are on.
Personally I would write down my requirements and simply phone them both for a quote then play them off each other, all sorted in 4 phone calls.
You should be well aware of any differing in quality of the TV services so can compare simply on cost.0 -

Oh dear seems the ignore feature doesnt work when not logged in, but at least is means I can advise you again on VM.

"How does it affect me?
Customers with Broadband size: XXL (50Mb) – your downstream usage excluding file sharing traffic (see below) remains unaffected and we'll soon be increasing your upload speeds from 1.5Mb to 5Mb. However during peak times we'll need to slow you back to 1.75Mb if your upload usage is particularly high."

Throttled on file sharing as all VM bb is.
Are you intentionally trying to give out wrong info, most areas are not on the new traffic management scheme yet as their upload speed is still 1.5
If your broadband has been upgraded to improved upload speeds, there's a separate traffic management policy for you."

Oh good lord I need to login before reading your posts, so they are blocked from view.
You are confused, ignore the heavy user management policy and how it relates to upload speeds you need to be looking at the part titled "file sharing" it should be self explanatory.
ALL that means everybodys, filesharing is throttled as I stated. Its clearly written in the policy wording I linked and quoted and is known by any body and every body within the industry.
But as always if you have some actual data to back up your constant arguing then super duper, but is this just another bad case of the Trolls?
Its also here in simpler terms:

"File sharing
At peak times we also slow down the speed of file sharing traffic – that's services like Limewire, Gnutella, BitTorrent and Newsgroup (Usenet) traffic. You will, of course, still be able to use these services, but downloads and uploads will take longer during these peak periods."0
