Cheque Fraud scam - They got me big time!
Comments

2 things which should have set off alarm bells
'western union' and 'nigeria'.0 -
It also surprises me that Western Union hasn't had a lawsuit taken out against them, as a significant percentage of their business(particularly in Nigeria) is fraudulent, and they are profiting from such activities.0
-
What crime is Western Union committing? The reason they are the ones used is because they are by far the largest and most widespread company for interntational money transfers.
It is certainly a pitty the OP got scammed but I have to say it is certainly not a case of an intelligent scammer as they are following a very old method which really should have got a lot of alarm bells ringingAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Naivety? LOL. Not at all. I think it is more a display of paranoia that is shown in this thread.
There is no reason a scammer would come and post that here. There is nothing that could be gained by doing it. Furthermore, if you have ever received or read a letter by these scammers, you can tell the writing style and grammar is not even slightly similar.0 -
The reason I tend to suspect that this is not a genuine post is firstly, it reads almost word for word the same as the scam warning on various sites. Secondly, that the OP was desperate, yet does not appear to have logged back in since asking for assistance. If you were desperate would you not bother seeing if people were able to help?
Also, the nigerian/cheque scam is widely known on the internet yet the OP has never come across it, yet manages to find MSE, register leave a post and disappear.
I believe the post was actually intended as a generic warning, a way of making the scam highly visible again to make sure no one is really fooled by it.
