Christmas present for pregnant daughter?

My daughter's 31 and will be 34 weeks pregnant with her first baby at Christmas. Usually I buy her something "designer" for Christmas - got her a nice pair of Ugg boots last year.

Obviously this year designer wear is out - even footwear as her feet seem bigger too!

I don't want to get her baby items, but something for herself. She's got loads of handbags, perfume etc., and I just can't think what to get her.

Any ideas please?

Spa day for pregnant women? :)
Speaking of what I personally wanted at that stage:
Photo session of me, hubby and bump (I have some stunning pics of my bump!)
    Pampering!
    Nice meal out.
Voucher for shopping for clothes after baby arrives.

Definitely do not buy shoes! My feet WERE a size 5! Now they're a size 6! I hoped they'd shrink back down but nope... after 17 months I've admitted defeat and given all my lush shoes to a friend... *sigh*
Don't buy perfume either - the smell of perfume can make lots of pregnant women feel sick.
If she likes handbags why not buy her a nice changing bag? I know you said for her, but this will live with her for the next many months! Some of the ones out there at £80+ are LUSH and if I could have justified buying them I would have in a heartbeat!

Thanks Mrs Tine, some good ideas there. Can you actually get spa days for pregnant women? She wouldn't want any massage stuff as she's very protective of bump!

The meal's out as she reckons she can't eat much at the moment, feels like there's nowhere for it to go...!

But the vouchers and photo sessions are great ideas. And one of her friends got her bump painted...she was less than impressed with that one!

You're right about the feet swelling. She was a size 8 shoe before she got pregnant...God only knows what she must be now!!
  • You can get spa days for new mothers which would allow her to focus some time on her post pregnancy.
We did this for a friend this year and she loved it.

They also do pregnancy packages in most spas where they go no where close to the bump!!

How about vouchers for a spa or beauty salon for after the baby is born? I received some for my birthday when I was 38 weeks pregnant. It was lovely to be able to take myself off and have some relaxing treatments a few weeks after my son had been born.:)
  • i must be strange
despite always wearing make up/having my hair done etc

the following weeks after giving birth, i would have hated a spa day

i felt i had been "handled" enough
and the pressure to relax and enjoy it would have been immense to me

i'm struggling to think what to buy
are you wanting something specifically for her (not baby related in any way)
or do you want to incorporate baby into this somehow?
  • My baby is due right after Christmas and I'd LOVE it if my mum did me a hamper of things like bubble bath, books, make up (cos you really dont feel like bothering but when you do you feel great) a few choccies and a little bottle of bubble and a few HM vouchers for things like helping with the housework, watching the baby for an hour so I can have a nice bath and read a chapter of my book, taking me and baby out for a wander around the shops. All the things people forget about. I'll have 2 under 2 after christmas and honestly when people ask when I'd like for christmas I just want time. Time for me to have a quick break & for them to spend a bit of their time with me doing normal things. It gets lonely especially once the novelty of baby wears off for everyone else and you're at home with LO all day every day.
Maybe a few vouchers for clothes shops for when she wants to get a few new things for that yummy mummy feeling :D
  • My friend made me a hamper for my birthday, which was day after DS1 was born....He arrived early but in there she put things in that I could use before and after the birth...
Before hand i had pamper bits for me, boots do a mum to be range and you know its all safe for her to use, A voucher for a pedicure (hadn't seem my feet in months so was nice of her to think of them!)For after the event I had a bottle of wine, a rubber ring!!, bags of salt for the bath, lavender oil for the bath, chocolate and a baby sitting voucher from her and her hubby

    Hope it helps
  • I had a mum to be treatment when I was 30 something weeks pregnant with dd and loooovvveeedd it!! I asked what they were going to do before hand to make sure I was ok with it all. I had a pedicure when pregnant with ds and that was lovely too!
I now have a spa day voucher that was bought for me for my birthday a week after dd was born. I can't use it yet though because I am breast feeding. Luckily I have until April 2011 to use it. I can't wait to use it but I will have to wait. Dd will take a bottle of expressed milk but I can't leave her all day. I am also worrying about leaking milk if I miss a feed while there!? not very nice when I will trying to relax. Also I don't think you feel ready to be pampered or get your body out straight after birth! Just thought you might want to consider these points if planning a spa day for afterwards.
I bet she would love a mother to be treatment though or a photo shoot someone suggested.

  • Hiya
I would just echo what other people have said.
A pamper box and put things like face wash, face masks, bubble bath, body lotion, make up, nail varnishes etc in.
My mum did one for me when I was pregnant and she's done one for me every Christmas since.
I love opening it up and seeing what goodies I've got!

What about a subscription to her fave magazine so she can escape when/ if baby goes down for a nap! Will have a nice treat once a month then.
I'm a mum to 2 and I def agree about the me time post, we need to be on our own sometimes no matter how much we love being a mum. I had a mum to be massage when I was pregnant with number 2 and it was so wonderful that i wished I'd had one with number 1.
Or a book of vouchers for ironing\ babysitting\shopping\gardening\ etc?
Best wishes to the mum to be xx
