How do I get gas supplied? (I have a pre-paid meter)

    Contradicting you.
    Restrictions on ex-monopoly suppliers were removed years ago.
    (doesn't make them cheapest though - stick your consumption in a comparison site.)

    Same on elec. Those rules were in place for a few years to encourage poaching of customers from the old host board. They have been gone a while now since it was argued to be anti-competitive.

    However, given some areas a Supplier has very little customer base (hence a poor set of agent contracts to support the meter & readings services), it's likely some are a little high since they may not really want people ;)
