Does it state that anywhere? Just says he wants his dad to travel down, take the car there and pay for expenses? If i'm incorrect then I apologise, but under normal circumstances it seems unreasonable

I think the cost would be alot more than £250 on a 2010 car, so I'd just pass it to the insurance tbh. and avoid the aggravation.

Well he has given me an estimate for about £250 for a honda dealership in Bristol. I will ring dealerships around London tomorrow and find if they can quote me anything but I suspect they will need to see the car and not be able to tell me over the phone. But £250 is what has been estimated via my housemate. If it totals any more than around £500 I've made it clear all along that I would be passing it through my insurance. He didn't want this as he claims that his premium would rise. I'm a little sceptical about this claim though, tbh. Thus, the cheapest he says he could find was in bristol and he wants me to pay for his father's travel and accommodation costs!

Non fault claims can affect your premium so his claim of this is correct.

Right, but I'm still within my rights to put the whole thing through my insurance if he starts acting up and there wouldn't bbe any negative consequences of that?

If it goes through your insurance, you lose your NCB (Unless you have Protected/Guarenteed NCB) which in turn may make your premiums go up

It seems from the attitude of the third party that this would be a good idea. Your insurer will ensure the loose ends are all tied up (no comeback from the third party in future over some other item that has turned up needing repair etc).

And you can preserve your NCD by reimbursing your insurer if the amount involved makes this worthwhile.

But you don't have to be bothered with "putting it through your insurer". Just tell the third party you have decided to leave this to the insurers to deal with, and he will have to progress the claim himself.

Then inform your insurer of the incident, and just pass on any correspondence you get off the third party to them unanswered to deal with.

You can use your own repairer, they will pay regardless of cost, (providing it's justifiable)

    Hi Mikey,

We have come across anecdotes on here before where people have had experiences difference to what you say above.
One company has in their contract that they can use reconditioned parts to repair your car and people who wanted to take their car elsewhere had the choice to pay extra.

So I don't think it's universally true that they will pay regardless of cost, especially if you signed and agreed to the contract to use reconditioned parts.

This might not be the norm, but we have seen anecdotes on here.

Lisyloo, you’re correct if your insurance is repairing your car they can apply what ever T&C are in your policy.

What they can’t do is export those terms to a third party

    Cheers.
    Yes you are absolutely right.
This would apply to fully comp and not third party.
