Boiler repair cover.

Hi

I probably already know the answer but thought I would ask anyway, just in case!!

We had central heating and a new boiler fitted via the WarmFront scheme about 2.5 years ago. The boiler is an Ideal Isar HE30. We have had numerous problems over a period and last week the boiler died completely. We rang Ideal who told us to ring WarmFront (think that is what they are called!!) in case we had anything left in the grant account. We were told there was still a £1,000 available. Lovely, we said, can somebody come and fix it for us then! We were told that they probably could but that we need to make a new application, and then wait 21 days for a surveyor and THEN it could take 6 months or so before a repair.. Obviously we are unable to wait that long without hot water. Heating we can manage without, we have gas fires and lived with them for 20 years until we got the grant.

Since looking on the net, it seems that this particular boiler has a terrible reputation for breaking down often. Part of me is regretting having it fitted, as our old one was reliable and we weren't desperate for central heating. We have been left in a worse position than before.

Anyway, back to my point. If I ring, for example, British Gas (we get both our gas and electricity from them). and explain that our boiler is broken and we wish to take a contract out with them ( hopefully paying monthly), are they likely to allow us to do this? If not, does anybody know of any other scheme we can join, with an existing problem, but continue to have cover for the future? My husband receives higher rate DLA and IB, if this makes a difference. It is getting quite difficult having to boil kettles for baths and washes etc, and my 17 month old grandson lives with us and he is a filth monster at the best of times!!

Any and all help appreciated.

In case anybody is interested, has any ideas how to fix it, the Surveyor has been and told us the PBC (?PCB) board has gone.

We have had quotes of around £300, but cannot really lay out this amount in one go.

Thanks in advance.

.

The service contracts do not cover pre-existing faults. If they did, everyone would be trying it on by signing up when their boilers broke down!

bg will add the cost of the fixed price repair of approx 170 to the annual contract price and spread it through the year....probably around the same cost as your new pcb.
  • You can also do a one off repair from BG and then take out the contract, the advisor will tell you ALL of your options when you call.
