Vodafone Your Plan Contacts :(

Options
Hi guys,

First time poster here and seriously needing a bit of advice.

I went a Vodafone Retailer in November last year in which to open a new contract for an HD2. I had a specific deal which they were offering online at the time which they were unable to match in store.

Obviously desperate for the sale the colleague I was dealing with went to have a word with his manager. What he came back to me with was a "Business" contract which would be very close to what the internet deal was and the offer of some cashback. So that was great and I thought nothing of it until today.

After about a years use on my current deal I have been using nowhere near both the mins and texts on the contract as well as the internet usage so I thought I would give them a ring and see if I could downgrade to another price plan as there had been sufficient time past.

At this point I was informed that Vodafone would do nothing as I am on a "Your Plan" contract with them which means I am stuck on these terms for the duration of the contract.

This shocked me a bit as I was never made aware of any such term in this contract at the POS and was just told it would just work like a normal contract with Vodafone but I would be down as a business user and not a normal customer.

I really am quite annoyed by this as it gives me no ability to re-negotiate the contract at any point so I feel stuck on a price plan now I no longer need. Sure I should have read the small print etc but surely I should have been informed at the POS in the first place regarding something like that?

I just would like some advice regarding my situation and just to see if anyone knows where I should look to next?

Cheers,

John

  • I doubt there is anything you can do. The fact they offered you a Business contract in the first place should've made alarm bells ring.

Does it say anything about being able to downgrade in the contract?

If not, there is no provision to do so. Phone salespeople are usually quick to use this as a selling point if there's any chance to appear to reduce the contract cost. If they didn't mention, it's probably because you can't.

Was just told at the time when opening the contract that it would function exactly as other consumer deal and it would just be a different name for the contract which is what has got me.

It has nothing to do with being a business contract, or functioning the same as a consumer deal.

Almost all Vodafone contracts within the last year are 'Your Plan' contracts which can not be downgraded.

Who informed you that you can't drop your price plan? 191? eForum? Twitter? Might be worth trying a different method.

Sadly though you're unlikely to get your way. By your own admission you weren't actually told that you could drop to a lower tariff and you also clearly didn't read the contract. You assumed that you could downgrade. As it's not really Vodafone's mistake they're unlikely to be amenable in this instance.

    And I quote

    4. You may change your price plan to one with a higher monthly line rental charge at any time. You cannot do this more than once a month. If you change your price plan any unused minutes, texts or data included in your price plan will be lost.

It says you can increase your plan but NOT decrease it.

When you took out the contract, you agreed on x phone at £xx per month for 18/24 months.

Some networks allow you to downgrade by one step halfway through the contract, some don't. As you've discovered.
