Sign up as a new customer will Sky know?

I am going to be moving shortly and the house I am moving to does not have a dish.
I have Sky plus but would change to Sky + HD as I have an HD TV.
If I cancel my present subscription and re-apply at my new house in my wife's name and bank account, will Sky realise that it is the same customer?
Will they even care?
The other thing I was thinking of was to sign up my wife at the new address as a friend and when it was all up and running then cancel my subscription.
Can you sign up your wife as a friend?
THe £50 M&S vouchers would cover any extra subscription.

Very curious to the answer to this one, I have been going to do this for some time now, just never had the bottle lol0

If its a new address and person applying it will be ok.
Once you leave sky it takes 12 months for you to be classed as a new customer.0 -
I did this when I moved house and had no problems.
Don't bother with refering a friend - go through a cashback site such as quidco and you'll get £75 cashback and £50 of M&S vouchers. Looks like free box and installation as well.0 -
Could we do this in the same house, sky has been in my dp's name since we joined, could we cancel (providing we are out of contract) and I sign up as a new customer in my name with my account? would we then be able to use our current hd+ box in our bedroom for no extra cost (just as sky+ rather than hd)? Thanks.0

Not sure if 'oneandonlyboy' is giving the correct advice about 12 months before being seen as a new customer by Sky.
I cancelled my subscription with Sky in May this year after 10 years with them. Cant be bothered with their laid back attitude to people with problems and the crap Sky+ box's which are constantly going wrong.
Since I cancelled I have been pestered with letters every week asking me to come back. The latest one offering me the system for £9.00 per month for 1 year. Thats right until Nov. 2011.
I have no intention of returning to them but it shows that sometimes you can cancel and get a better deal as I was paying nearly £40 per month for what I came to consider a lot of rubbish.0 -

The difference is between you ringing them to subscribe and them ringing you to come back. Ringing them to rejoin does definitely mean waiting twelve months to be considered a new customer otherwise you have to wait and see how long it takes them to ring you to come back after cancelling.0
