Not correct. They are withdrawing access to it for undischarged bankrupts though, claiming that they have too much of the market. Would not surprise me if they introduced some kind of scoring for the account though, so whilst they officially have an account for people with poor credit, it's not really there.0

I have a basic account with santander, but they didn't issue me a debit card with the account. Like most people on here I have struggled with debts but now paying them off, thankfully i never had to go the bankrupt route but obviously im still being penalised.
As i understand it a debit card allows you to use the money in your account and nothing more, so i dont understand why i wouldnt get issued one.
This was no problem until yesterday i tried to use paypal and realized a debit card was kind of essential to online payments (you have to link a card to paypal/Ebay to make payments and they wont accept pre paid cards!)
So a couple of things to the community is there a bank out there with a basic account that issues you with a debit card? after all it's only my money i want to spend.
and lastly if your going through this murky over complicated, unforgiven, unsympathetic and emotionless debt cycle, things do get better take it from some one who has been through it. persevere and things will get better in the end.0 -
I'm about to start a DMP (if they ever call me back?!) And need to get a new bank account. As my credit score is obviously pretty poor I thought I'd just try and get a basic bank account (been advised to change banks before starting DMP as my bank is who I have my loan with)
Firstly should I try and get a normal account and risk another rejection?
Secondly what basic account should I apply for? I'm with NatWest and owe money to Barclaycard, capital one and aqua.
Thanks!0 -

Try the Co-op Cashminder account or Lloyds TSB Cash account or failing that, a Yorkshire Building Society Cash Transactor account, which despite being a savings accounts allows direct debits, standing orders and has an ATM card - I have one of eachDFW'er - Lightbulb moment : 31st July 2009 - £18,499

Simple really!
Go to coventry building society, you can open one online with them. quick and straightforward
Or you could try Yorkshire or derbyshire building society, or any other building society who will open you an account there and thenFor everthing else there's mastercard.
For clampers there's Barclaycard.0 -

You were with Lloyds in Scotland for 20 years, so you held your account at the one and only branch of Lloyds I know Scotland had and that was in Bothwell Street in Glasgow, somewhere between the Clydesdale Bank and the Abbey in the Corner with Hope Street.
Is that the case?
Or do you mean you have been with the TSB for 20 years. If that is the case and you want to stay with LTSB in Scotland then move to the Bank of Scotland which is LTSB's brand in Scotland.
Just ask in any branch and they will be able to advice you of this, you don't think the Lloyd's Banking Group are actually leaving the Scottish market and the profit that come from it do you.
They are not, it is just what was TSB, then LloydsTSB is now under the Bank of Scotland name (check your data protection act statement for your LTSB account) and if you open an account there now then close your LTSB account, hopefully your internal data will get linked, moved across, and you will be have the same offers and internet banking experience
I am unsure if BoS customer will be able to use LTSB branches in England and Wales or just / even Lloyd's branches when this re-branding process is complete. As I understand it BoS customers can use Halifax in England & Wales and they can use Bos in Scotland.
Again, Halifax is another Lloyd's Banking Group business.0
