in Credit cards
hi
I'm new to this site and need all the advice I can get.
Earlier in October I purchased a product online NOT !!!!!! but TEETH WHITENER vain I know.I believed it was a one off purchase however I have come to realise via my credit card statement and by contacting the company that the product was actually a monthly subsciption. I have also realised that this is from America.
I have set in motion trying to cancel the whole thing via my credit card company and the company I purchased the product from. They emailed me a link in order to complete the cancellation however the link will not complete the task as it requires a State; a ZIP code and a valid telephone number.
When I purchased the original product, my country of origin was asked for and the electronic form that was required to be filled in, was changed so that it represented a form that details such as post codes, counties etc. could be filled in.
I have tried to recontact the company but to no avail, there is no email address to correspond with.
has anybody had a simular problem and can offer advice please
Eddie

Assuming you used a card to pay for it, you could always call the issuer and tell them that you have lost your card. They'll then issue you a new one which should have different details to the "lost" one, thereby preventing any payments being collected with the old card details.
Of course, you need to destroy the current card and not use it after you've told them that you've lost it and you will also be without your card for a short period, until the new one arrives. My posts are my own opinions based on my experiences and info gathered from sites such as this.

Having a different card will not make any difference whatsoever, credit card company still have to honour payment....0 -

Obviously my jokes aren't appreciated - but my answer still stands.
It is a 'continuous payment authority' that has been set up. This is a payment system similar to direct debit and standing order to pay subscriptions, except that there is no legal standing.
Direct debit - Customer gives authority to company. Company requests money to be paid under the agreement. The amount and timings are controlled by the company receiving the money. Can be cancelled by the customer, the bank or the company.
Standing order - Agreement is made and the customer sends the money to the company. Can only be cancelled by the customer, company has no control.
Continuous payment authority - Similar to direct debit but set up on a card, with no signed agreements. Company controls amount debited, frequency and timing. Can not be cancelled by the customer or the bank. Company controls everything.
To sum up - you have to cancel this with the company. Cancelling your card will NOT stop the payment, as the company has authority to take money from the card so the bank will supply the new details.
You have to put your concerns in writing to the company, either by email or snail-mail. From there, you will start to build a legal footing on which to stop the authority.Debts at LBM (May '08) £5760 - Lloyds CC £4260, Lloyds OD £1500;Debts as of May 28th 2011:Santander CC: £0.00Lloyds OD : £0.00DFW Nerd #1247 - Proudly dealt with my DebtsOlympic 2012 Challenge #12

if it was actually teeth whitener why did'nt you get your teeth whitened at your local dentist or buy from boots a colgate whitening kit for about £12. im sure it does the same job as the kit you bought. plus you get boot advantage points as well, 48p worth.0

Apologies for my mis-information but I'd read that stating that the card has been lost will result in you getting a new card with a different number and start/end date.
I have also read that a CCA can't be claimed on an expired card.
Looks like I was wrong...
