TalkTalk BB connection query - tech advice needed

I've been trying to connect my talkTalk BB connection - managed fine for the first day. Today when I switched on it wouldn't work.
After fruitless attempts via "technical support" I am waiting for a visit from an engineer.
However, I now have got it going (by reinstalling everything).
I have disabled my dialup modem. But I notice though that the talktalk connection seems to be sittiing under dial up in my "network connections" where the modem is now disconnected.
Instead I seem to be online via the LAN local area connection. When I click on the properties, I seem to have this connection on a 24 hour lease which will expire tomorrow.
What does all this mean, please can sks help me sort it out?

What sort of device are you using to connect to the internet? Is it a USB-based modem or a router?
The problem may be that you are using a router (which your computer will treat as LAN based) and it's mis-interpreted it as dial-up, or the other way around - you're using a USB modem (which could be a 'dial-up' connection) and it thinks this is LAN.0 -
Thankls for replying - I haven't got a clue what any of this means....
I'm using the ADSL broadband modem supplied by TalkTalk - it's the SmartAX MT882.
At least, this is what I installed the other night.
My dialup modem is now disconnected - I also have a BT broadband modem which I can't remove

After some googling, I may have found the answer and an explanation of how to fix it here: http://forums.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/forum_posts.asp?TID=5341&PN=1&TPN=10
