Work out if you have XP home or Pro and borrow a disk off someone. The origin of the disk does not matter, as long as your licence is vaild, you should haev a sticker with the licence on it.

The thread posted by James240 may have been entitled "Yinstall virus" but the HJT log revealed an Alcra/Alcan infection.

Yinstall may be a virus or it may be part of a Yahoo installation.

If you can't boot to safe mode do a full system wide search for yinstall.exe and, where/if found, post the location(s)/address(es) to this thread.


You should also go through as many steps as possible in the first 4 posts to the thread mentioned by f1charlie on post #3 above. Especially the Ewido/AVG scan. Strictly, that scan should be done in safe mode but do it in normal mode if you need to. Save the scan report.

Lastly download & install HijackThis from here ....

Open it and do a full system scan & save a log file.


In your next post please include the following….

> addresses of any yinstall.exe files you found
> Ewido/AVG scan report
> Panda Activescan report
> HijackThis log report.

ALSO …. Please update us on how your computer is operating now.
