Hi all
I have been quoted an extortionate amount by Toyata Dealer to have the front brake pads and disc to be replaced for my avensis!!
I am thinking of having it done somewhere else like ATS or Kwik FiT.
Where is the best place for both value and service?
Any ideas/suggestions much appreciated thanks

First things first - do you really want to be skimping something that could prevent a car/tree interaction?

Now on to answering the question - you should be able to buy a good pair of front discs for an old model Avensis (you don't specify which it is) for anything from about £40 to £80, depending upon the exact model. Pads really shouldn't be more than about £25 each. It's then possible to fit them yourself and, probably, save a fortune.

Next step, if that's a bit scary, is to simply ring round a few places and ask for their best deal.

Finally, take those prices back to Toyota and see what they can do. There's huge margins in some of these things, and labour rates that rival brain surgeons rates, so they may well move a lot.

Any good motor factors should be able to supply the parts.

What you need is a good local garage to fit them if you do not feel competent enough to fit them. Ask around. Personal recommendation is best.

I have just fitted new rear disk and pads to my car.

My experience with the places you have mentioned is that they are out looking for work.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
  • I agree with what most of the earlier posters say and unless you are mechanically competent, dont attempt this work yourself, however tempting it is to save money.Ring round a few places for the best price.

My experiences of several fast fit places i have dealt with have been negative at times, not saying they all do this but i have found they will sometimes find other things that "need " doing while you are there. To be fair i have not used any of them recently,so standards may have improved.

Note: euro car parts only sell parts for european cars.
You wont find the pads for the toyota avensis on there. They will cost you near £30
  • Have a search on Ebay, theres a seller with discs and pads (budget) for £45 buy it now including delivery or £59 for branded. Get a quote from an independant garage, dont use Kwikfit type places, they always seem to look for other faults and are not the best trained mechanics in the world. Should be a couple of hours labour at most. Most garages round here charge about £35 per hour labour.
