Thats the extra hotwater function (XHW). Where you can order the heatpump to raise the water temperature above the 55 degree standard for a set period (3h, 6h, 12h, etc). If you had that set on 24h... no wonder it was costing a bomb cause the emersion would always be kicking in even more to keep the temperature hotter! Afaik, the heatpump does 24h hot water as standard. I have my XHW function set to off. Under the spring setting its 55 degrees in the morning but it has fallen to 30 degrees by the evening. I may timer a 3h emersion boost in the evening using the said XHW function. The RHI tariffs are meant to be coming in next year where the government will subsides your electric bill. Heatpumps are 7p for every KW/h. Not sure if covers exhaust air heatpumps tho.

Thanks for replying to our post again really is much appreciated.

Unfortunately for us we didn't set the boiler water up when we moved in it was set to autumn/spring and 24hr water by a Nibe engineer and the only thing we were told to do was never to switch it off so realistically it was setup wrong and therefore has cost us a fortune over the last 6 weeks, our next door neighbour had a bill today for £350.00 just for 6 weeks electricity.

I have now turned the 24hr water off so hopefully we will see some difference, however when we tried this the other day the daily cost did still seem very high but again we were told by Nibe to leave it alone and leave it set to Winter Mode Auto and 24hr water, which at the time i didn't want Winter mode on because i could see the increase in cost per day so that was switched back to the spring mode.

At the moment during day mode our tariffs are for the first units 25p and then for the following day units it's 12.33p. At the night time per unit it only costs 4p as we are currently on economy 7.

It's so frustrating as we were never told how this unit operates and to just leave it alone then you get bills through like this and being a software engineer it's even more frustrating because i so wanted to mess with it.

    Thanks again.

Aceboy, you have to take into account that you have probably lived through the coldest 6 weeks for a very long time. The 1 kW turning into 3 is at the top end of what is possible for a ASHP when the outside temp is above 7 or more at -5 or less they get closer to 1 in 1 out.

Do you have underfloor, rads or fan coils? what flow temp have you specified it should be about 40 or so, alot cooler than a Gas system.

Hi mate thank you as well for the feedback received.

We have no underfloor heating just rads. The Nibe engineer set everything up but the flow temp is showing 28.7 (30) not sure whether this is good or not.

I think the main thing for our new properties is the system has been setup wrong and needs to be investigated further by them. If this is the case, which it now sounds like they can pay our electricity bills until they put it right.

See everything you have told us makes sense but everything we have been told by the nibe engineer seems to have just put the usage up massively.

Please can you let me know anymore about this flow temp.

    Thanks

The flow temp is what it says the current flow temperature. The number in brackets is the calaculated target temperature as per the heating curve and offset. There are diagrams in the manual.

  • WITH REGARDS TO HIGH RUNNING COSTS WITH NIBE HEAT PUMPS

Doing some research into the matter the two main causes of this are:

    1. Lack of air intake by the machine the NIBE 360P requires 32l/s in order to function correctly and extract enough heat from the air in order to provide sufficient heating and hot water. If the machine does not take in the required airflow it could cause the immersion element to become more active resulting in larger bills.

    2. The NIBE unit is undersized. The NIBE 360P is made to provide sufficient heating and hot water for properties with no more than a 4kW heat loss. This would primarily target apartments and flats rather than houses.

I personally think the product is very good however the industry as a whole does not understand the concept of the exhaust air heat pump yet.
  • In addition to the above post, the airflow should be set up on installation and therefore the ceiling vents within the wetrooms should not be altered by anyone and should be kept clean at all times

Very interesting thank you. A Nibe engineer is coming to look at the first point. However, it is the second point that worries me. How would I know the heat loss of the house? It's a new build, 2 bed, 2 floor. 79m2 in total.

Edit: Just found this after a quick google: http://www.bbsgroup.co.uk/downloads/environmental/newsletters/april_10/NIBE%20Fighter%20Exhaust%20Air%20Source%20Heat%20Pumps%20and%20SAP.pdf
Seems the 360P is designed for 80m2+. So the right unit for my house then?

Also, while googling "Nibe 360P"... I notice this thread has a higher listing than the Nibe website! Brilliant!

Talking of manuals we only found them last night, we have been told nothing about this system.

The building contractors used a second rate contractor to install the system, we believe this was so they didn't have to pay decent money to nibe to have one of their engineers install and actually tell us what it does.

After speaking to Nibe themselves today we have an engineer coming out a week Friday and also after speaking to them we have so many menus/options locked out, which Nibe seem very surprised considering it is ours to alter. Hopefully i,ll get a decent training course and they are doing a flow check, which after reading the threads on here sounds a bloody good idea.

We asked Nibe why there wasn't any timing system on the unit and they have said if the menu's weren't hidden we could use something called setback not sure what this means but should get a good idea next week.

Since turning the water setting off we have noticed a massive difference in the amount of units being used. Nibe still think the unit hasn't been setup properly so well worth getting them out, the second rate engineer who put ours in has the i don't care attitude.

I have a nibe fighter 360p in my 3 bedroom Melin homes house and the system is very very expensive to run i have done a lot of reading up on the system and know the system like the back of my hand i have been in contact with nibe, At the moment it is cost me around £13.00p a day to run in the winter as it is using 85 units a day.

Economy 7 is really for night storage heaters you really need to be on a standard tariff with these type of systems,

  • Hiya, we moved into our property in oct 2009... we have the nibe fighter 360p in our 3 bedroom property and it is costing between £40- £70 per week to run, i am on a prepayment meter as we couldnt afford the £660 electric bill that came through after 3 months useage! as this is supposed to be a cost effective way to heat your home i think it is disgusting, we had a nibe guy out and he was useless, we know it is set up properly as it was recently serviced but when we want a bath we have to use the hotwater boast button, even then the hot water is not hot enough for a decent bath its literally in and wash and out again, this is without using hot water all day, i think the expense is awful and i dont know who to go to next with this problem, we love our house and really dont want to move but we are on a low income and really cant afford the electric here, i am seriously considering going to watchdog with this as its money being thrown away :o(

any advice or comeback on this would be appreciated
