    For my DS (18 months)

Toys R Us wooden activity cube - £29.99 was £39.99
    Whistle & Blow Thomas - £9.99 was £19.99
    Thomas lullaby toy - £9.99 was £19.99
    Thomas mobile phone - £9.99 was £15.99-19.99
    Vtech learning bus - £15.99
    Thomas torch - £11.99
Ball pit plus balls - £20
    Stickle bricks - £3.33
Hungry catapillar thick book - £1.99

Still to get his activity table at £25 (although I'm watching a few on eBay) Also watching a few of the Thomas sets on eBay too.

So £114 - I think this is quite good for what I've got? Not included jammies etc. Spent lots of time comparing prices online and luckily was able to reserve a lot of the Thomas stuff in Argos's sale which started today.

I usually spend 150-200 on ds but this year have spent 300.00 with a few wee things still to get:eek: usually i can get a few wee cheapy things that he would like but everything has cost more this year and i havent paid full price for much of it, I got his guitar hero for 70.00 should have been 150.!! so that saved me a bit, i have spent bout another 200 on other family members.

And this was the year we were cutting back:o

  • This year is a bargain! I wrapped everything I have so far this week and made a list and how much each thing cost.
We have 4 children and I have spent under £100 in total so far and they all have a bin bag and a half full of gifts.
There have been some great bargains about this year. Only one of my children feels he needs to ask for particular toys - and I happen to have some of them already.
With all these bargains I can splash out on some new Christmas decorations - can never have too many!
  • I have a dd 16yrs & a ds 18yrs. I saved in the virtual sealed pot this year from June & have saved (or will have by Dec £350) from this I will buy xmas gifts for everyone. I have got:

ds: provisional driving licence & 10 lessons & a pair of steal capped boots for college - he's very conscious of our money situation and really would be happy with much less (£160)

dd: TV with built in freeview & dvd (was £98 in nettos), Pjs (£6), slippers (£3), beauty box with samples collected through the year - perfumes, lazy cow shower gel (free), make up bits from magazines, and makeup from e.l.f (£12) vie mascara (£2.50), carrie style gold-plated necklace (£21), spa day voucher (for two) including beauty treatment (£10)

oh: binoculars & constellations book £26 from amazon (but I had a £12 gift certificate already on the account so would have been £38) & a shower cap £4

mil spa beauty box on offer at boots a couple of weeks ago £19 but my 1/2 was £9.50.

am stumped for fil & ex-mil....

  • I have already listed what I have spent so far, but don't people find that they follow the trends that their parents had when they were younger?

I was talking to my mum about it the other day (I have the added advantage of being her boss so get to talk to her a lot!) and we were talking about when me and my sister were younger.

My parents always bought us a big present worth £100+, and then lots of little presents, totalling about £250 in total each. Even in hard times I have tried to carry this on with my children, stupid I am sure!

When I split from my DD's father the first Xmas i said I couldn't afford to buy her much but still managed to spend £100!!!!

My kids also get about £50-£100 spent on them for their birthdays (one in August one at the end of October), which again is what my parents used to do with us, although mine and my sisters birthdays are in january and february
Life is like a box of chocolates..........you always seem to pick the hard ones!
  • For fiance's kids ... around £40 each

Two ps3 games for the boy

and a MAC voucher for the girl

Probably do some little stockings too ... choccie coins, satsuma's ... toiletries ... cuddly wheatie toy etc.. never too old for a stocking!!

Hi there, can I ask how you managed to get the driving lessons so cheap? I've just paid for 10 lessons and they costs £200 (should have been £220) and the provisional was £50. Any advice gratefully recieved!!! :D
