Sky or virgin?

I am sure this question has been asked many times before but after searching through threads I am more confused!

Basically we want a box downstairs as we are sick of the annoyingly frequent loss of picture on our digital tv! Plus a box upstairs as our ds cant even pick up a signal on his new digital tv. (We never had any problems with our old analogue tv's and freeview boxes).

We also want broadband, which we currently pay virgin 12 per month for.

I am swaying towards sky as we would like the disney channel for the kids but other than that we are happy with the basic package.

We would prefer not to have a land line but understand we would have to have one with sky.

So honest opinions, pound for pound who offers the best service?
And whats this talk of sky pushing the prices up? If thats true by how much would I be looking at if my package started at £42 a month.

I would be really gratefull of any advice!

I use sky as I do like their TV service, however they are not cheap. Landline & broadband through 02 is only about £12 or so.

If I had the option for virgin I would probably switch to them, purely based on the broadband speeds they can offer.

Why not just fix your aerial?
Or install freesat? Why pay a monthly fee if you only want the basic package?

As far as we are aware there is nothing wrong with our ariel as it has always been fine until we got a new tv. It has been reported in the papers about the picture loss being due to high altitude or something like that??? My ds doesn't have access to the roof ariel and is unable to pick up any picture from any plug in ones that we have tried. As I said we would also like Disney, plus the hubby misses sky sports news.

Have just seen this virgin upgrade from broadband offer. Would the £23 package (without installation charge) still be v+ just without HD or do you think it would be the old style box?

It'll either be a cisco box or a v+, if your getting xl tv it makes no sense not getting a v+ box. If you have a v+ box additional boxes are charged at £5.50 per month, but if you get a normal box without the HD activated its £10.50 for an additional box.

So its actually cheaper for you to take the V+ box if your having 2 or more in your household
  • My own personal experiences with SKY have been so bad that I will sacrifice the HD element of sky sports (and SS3/4) just to get the hell away from them!
I intend on using the newly fitted fibre optic internet to go with BT Vision since Ofcom ruled that Sky's monopoly was unfair, although SKY still act with the arrogance as though it was still in place. They have treated me with contempt and I will never go back to them.
