  • Sounds like a total cowbag, who has a personal vendetta against you. Is there any reason you can't leave? You say you like the sector, so why not work elsewhere within it?
  • Hi all,
Thanks for all of your comments and thoughts.
Just to add, there is no office to work from, we all work from home and I get hounded on the e-mail.
We are only a team of 4 so it's hard work Monday to Friday pulling out all the stops.
We have no HR department so no complaints can be made, it was hard enough receiving a proper contract.

  • Well, when you look for your next job look for a professional outfit. There's jumping through hoops and then there's the circus style of management. Personally, I don't mind few hoops - I would mind working for clowns.

Even without an HR department a company still needs a grievance process. I'd be ringing ACAS...

She can, as long as it is factual / true. Whether she would understand these concepts seems dubious from what has been said.

as already pointed out, no she doesn't.

What happens when you say "no"? What happens when you say "can't"? What happens when you say nothing, because you've switched your email off for the weekend and gone away, or you've taken a week's leave? What happens when you say "I don't find that a professional way of speaking to me / behaving, please don't do it."

But as has already been pointed out, you might have been out of here by now.

Of course she can give a bad reference. where do you get this information from?
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
  • Any reference has to be wholly truthful.

If I were in your position I would go through any greivance process available and, if that did not solve things, I would then leave with minimal notice claiming constructive dismassal.

That does not however solve your immediate problem.

You could just leave but you would have to be on sure footing and make sure you had enough evidence to avoid having them claiming loss of profit or the such form you. I do find it difficult to believe you would have to give 3 months notice though, have you fully read your contract?

It's an Higher Education contract. 3 months notice is standard. For some staff in HE the notice period is even longer!
  • It's only 10am and I've already been pestered with an e-mail telling me to get more organised and that 'it's vital now Gemma' and patronising me about lists and how to focus because I missed sending one publication out on an e-bulletin. Granted, I shouldn't have, but any waking opportunity to jump down my throat and she does it in the most absurd, patronising way.
I have no media or marketing training and I write a newsletter, weekly e bulletin, co-ordinate/edit/proof read all publications, look after 9 networks of directors with my line manager, answer calls, attend government meetings, write all press releases and letters and she is telling me to get organised.
It is making me feel ill, I'll have to rise above it as just not sure how I'd get myself out of this mess without tarnishing my career.

In that case....I would sack it off and look for another job. No HR, no route of escalation, no company premises, emails at all hours, kisses for team members, meetings in private flats, no proper written contract procedure. Sounds like a nightmare.
