Obviously I don't want to risk damaging my printer , so how do you determine which ones are cheap for a reason against the good value ones?

I've always used the cheapest I can find! In the 15 years or so I've been doing this, I've never had a problem. There's isn't any noticible difference between the cheap cartidges.
  • compatible inks tend to be slightly more acidic and have the potential to corrode.

however, i have used them for many years and had no problems with them at all. your printer is more likely to clog up from lack of use before a compatible ink breaks it

I agree with the above you can use compatible inks for photo printing and depends what type of photos you are using them for. If you are wanting professional type photos then i would suggest sticking to the originals. But give the compatible a try because if you can find a company that uses high quality ink in their compatibles then the results borderline identical to the originals, then you are saving alot more money.:rotfl: I personally have used internet-ink for the last few years and havent had a problem and you save 10% after an order. Plus if you don't mind fidling around with your compatibles to make them work it's always worth the saving on the originals, it's the main compaines that are boosting the price of inks for there profit!!
    Every Little helps :rotfl:

Is that your website ink-man? If it is I hope you realise you're breaking UK laws by not including a contact address.
