Epson Inks - which buying route to take?

Am just getting into photo-editing and would like to print out a load of A4 sized photos/pictures.

Have only used one multipack (T0715) of original Epson inks so far (about £20). Am I best sticking to these or are compatible ones worth the risk? And if so, where is the best place to buy good ones?
I have read a few posts on here re. compatible v original but am still unsure.

My printer is an Epson DX8450. I usually use online sites for ordinary photo printing but this is different.

Also, does anyone know how many A4 sized colour prints I am likely to achieve from one multi-colour pack?

Thanks

Compatible ink cartridges are much cheaper in the long run. Generally, even if they damage your printer, it will be cheaper to replace the printer every few refills than to buy expensive branded ink. In my experience, the cheaper ink is very good - perhaps not quite as good for photo prints, etc. and the ink does seem to fade quicker... but with the money you've saved, just print out a fresh copy if you need one!

I haven't used this company but they sell your cartridges for 92p each:

Crumbs...glad that hasn't happened to me!
I have an old R200 (maybe 8 years old?) which I've has to reset twice as it's reached the end of it's service-free life (ssc utility)

Since someone dropped a needle and cotton into it, part-jamming the roller it's been a bit temperamental feeding paper, but, besides that a great printer (so good that when i do retire it, I'll be looking for a 2nd hand one!) :D

It's never happened to me or anyone I know either. But I noticed a few people on various forums saying things like, "Using unbranded ink might damage my £50 printer, so I'll buy the official £40 set instead of the cheap £5 pack." without realising what a false economy this is even if the ink damages your printer... which it almost certainly won't.

Thank you for all the suggestions so far.

ink2u: works out at £19.95 for a multipack
buytech: works out at £6.50 for a multipack
easyjetink: works out at £7.16 for a multipack

so there is quite a difference even between compatibles? These all include postage, with buytech being the dearest by far.

Obviously I don't want to risk damaging my printer , so how do you determine which ones are cheap for a reason against the good value ones?
  • I've always bought whichever were the cheapest on ebay, for around 48 carts/time. I'm sure some have been better than others, but I can't say as i noticed :D

I have used this eBay company for a long time now and not an ounce of trouble. They use American ink which i am led to believe does not fade as much as Chinese inks. also they offer a full money back guarantee if not completely satisfied. As i said before credit where credits due.

Ain't they great, had a R200 for 8 or 9 years now, only once have i used Epson ink and that was the free ink that came with the printer and since just used the cheapest ink i can find and the printer is still going strong.
