Considering whether I should go for a Desire or a Desire HD. Would look at buying SIM free on eBay and the price difference is around £200.

Good review here and here which list the tech spec for both but I'm looking for practical advice.

Considering you can get Android 2.2 on both and I'm not bothered about the additional 3MP on the camera... is it worth it? Are there any new features on the HD which are a great improvement/addition?

The HD is slightly bigger... Is it noticeable bigger than the old Desire? does it put you off?

Has anybody got anything to share... where they have actually tried/used both of them.

TIA

Although the HD screen is physically bigger it's still the same resolution (800x480) as the Desire.

Only major differences is the Twin LED flash (Great for low light pics) and 1.5Gb of internal storage (as well as 768Mb Ram)
This is 50% more Ram than the Desire and 3 times the internal storage.

Also they've fixed the power drain problem that plagued the Desire so it will last 960 hours on standby (Desire was 640 hours)

I don't think the HD is worth the extra just now.

I can't afford to buy one Sim free at the moment so i'm having to go with a contract mobile.

The Difference there for me is £30 Month for Desire and £35 for Desire HD (£120 over 2 year contract)
i Might be able to get a refurbed Desire for £25 Month but think i'll need to haggle to get that...

Think i'll go for the Desire..

Here's quite a useful real world comparison:

I'd say if you were already a Desire owner, the HD version won't blow you away with improvements, but coming from another Smartphone, it's a great large screen device.

The big plus with the HD over the Desire for me is the 50% increased RAM internal storage. This can be a real pain as it fills up quickly. Froyo helps somewhat, but there are still a few service apps that can't be moved.

Although the battery on the HD is smaller capacity, the screen and processor suck less juice and should last longer.
