Why restrict yourself to Scottish Power?
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Hi Cherry76

I would love to, however MSE would wrap my knuckles as I am not allowed to be selling on this forum. The advice I would give you is to make sure that you know how much gas/elec you are using over a 12-month period in kWh. If you have this information you can do a check on the comparison sites to give you an idea of the best tariffs for you. Give our sales team a call once you have a tariff in mind and make sure that this is suitable for you, i.e. is it a capped tariff and you are happy that the prices will not rise for a given period, are you happy to pay on a tariff that may change its prices within the future, it there a cancellation charge and will you be happy to remain on the tariff for the full contract period. Lots to consider but our sales team will help you if you are unsure.

Kind Regards

I am currently on the online 7 with SP and want to look around for a new deal but I have to stay until the 30th November or I will incur penalty charges.

Can I start the changeover now to another supplier as it takes about 6 weeks to get completed or do I have to wait until after the 30th November before I start looking for a new deal.
• I recently got a quote via a comparison web site and B.Gas came out cheaper than my present supplier Scottish Power. When I phoned B. Gas for price check the prices where in fact dearer than what I am paying with SP so I informed the comparsion web site that I would not be changing suppliers...I also told S.P the same via Phone...but no S.P still cancelled my account and now they say they cannot return my bill history having started a new account up again....so I do not know what my charges are now and feel really peeved off with the whole affair. Hi smmjh11 and oldandnhappy

smmjh11 - Transfers can take between 4 and 6 weeks to complete. For customer's that have been on a contract rate for a given period, my recommendation would be to stay on the tariff until it expires as it has been known in the past that further offers have been made when the tariffs expire. We will likely write to you this monthly to confirm the options for you when your current contract expires.

If you wanted to change I would only request the initial change no less than 2 weeks before your tariff will expire and do not make any changes to your payment method until you have received your final account. If you are on a contract rate with SP, then you are more than likely paying by monthly Direct Debit. If you made an application to transfer to another supplier before your contract period ends and you also cancelled your Direct Debit, you would be charged a cancellation fee because the tariff will be monthly Direct Debit only.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any further questions.

oldandhappy - I'm slightly confused about what has happened here but let me have a go. If you made an application to transfer supplier through a comparison site and this was processed, then we will have been contacted and advised that you were leaving SP. If you did infact change supplier, then we will have closed down your account and you will no longer be able to return to the original tariff that you were being billed on by SP as this will no longer be offered.

You mention that we have started a new account - I assume from this that when you returned to SP, we have created a new account for you and we are billing you on different rates than previously. If this senario is correct then you will not be able to return to your original tariff due to you changing supplier.

The alternative is that the actual transfer did not go ahead and you did infact stay with ScottishPower, however we have for some reason closed your old account and created a new one for you. If this is the senario then I am confused as to why this would have been done. If your application to transfer away was cancelled then I do not see there being an issue with you remaining on the previous tariff.

If you want me to investigate this for you then send me an email to onlinecomplaints@scottishpower.com. Alternatively, have a look at the link below to see how to contact us and also to escalate your issue if required:

• I was contacted by email only by British Gas to say I had agreed to change to them. I contacted British Gas by Phone to check the prices quoted via the comparions web site. The prices where not as stated but more than my Scottish Power prices. I contacted Scottish Power by phone after getting a first sorry you are leaving us email. I told them I was not changing suppliers and they told me not to worry because British Gas can have 3 attempts at requesting 'my changeover details' but because you have not supplied such they will be rejected. Scottish Power continued to say sorry your leaving etc. emails.I had also been informed from Scottish Power that I was on the best rates possible also so no other tariff would compared right now so I felt I was doing the right thing buy s4taying and not changing the tarrif. But low and behold I tried to log on and I was shut out of the account...resulting in another Phone call and reassurance that all would be put right and they would contact me with this information asap.No contact from Scottish Power at all at this stage although I found I could have access once again to the account...but no history.ie past bills which I require. So I emailed them this time requesting this information returned to the account and there response was that a new account has been opened and there is no past any more.!!!!!Dianne
I will not phone SP again but I would appreciate any help solving this. Right now I do not even know if they have put up the rates for this account.

Hi oldandhappy

Not sure why a new account has been created for you if you did not leave SP. I can investigate this for you if you like and I will confirm exactly what has happened. Contact me at onlinecomplaints@scottishpower.com. I can understand you having a new SP account if Bgas did actually take over the supply but it makes no sense if you have remained with SP.

Kind Regards

• SP left me an answer phone message today and the main part was about how it will take 4 weeks to complete because a customers charter has been set up....although when I log on I have a new acccount number already with no history so I still have no idea what the tarriff is now..although on the phone message the lady stated that all would be like it was before... which implies I would be on the previous tarriff with the history all returned...if this does not add up to you I would appreciate your assistance.I did get an email today requesting gas and elec. readings which I know is due about 10th November really. Well he did say "I can investigate this for you if you like and I will confirm exactly what has happened. Contact me at onlinecomplaints @ scottishpower.com." So perhaps you should take it to email?
