Gift for hard up brother!

Options
My brother is a student and is feeling the pinch at the moment (loan must have ran out!) so I would like to get him something to help him out or cheer him up a bit. Whatever I get would need to be posted.

I was thinking of getting him a shopping voucher for food or clothes but I know he does most of his food shoppong at local markets and shops and doesn't really buy many clothes.

Any ideas welcome!

    Hi funkymonkey849,

My daughter is also a hard up student at the moment and to help her out I sometimes do an online shop for her and have it delivered to her house, popping a few luxuries into the basket that she can't normally afford. If you have a look on the Discount Codes 'n Vouchers board there are often codes posted for free delivery etc.

Once you've had some Old Style input I'll move your thread over to the Student Money Saving board to see if you can get some more ideas there.

  • Firstly ~ How lovely of you to be thinking of your brother and how best you can help him out.

Is it his Birthday or something? or are you just wanting to cheer him up?

A cash cheque would be the easy answer, he could then put the money to use on what he thought best.

Failing that, how about high street vouchers? i believe these can be used in a variety of different shops.

Most importantly ~ Be sure to send him the link to moneysavingexpert.com :money:

It's not his birthday just wanted to cheer him up a bit, I remember too well how depressing it is when the loan is gone!

I didn't want to just send money though as I'm not exactly flush myself at the moment lol so I think about £20 is my max, and he'd probs feel like he'd have to put it towards the gas bill lol. He's got enough to pay for rent and utilities etc but not a lot spare to buy anything except essentials so I thought it would be nice to have a present or be able to do some guilt free spending lol so maybe a voucher would be the best bet. I don't really know where he shops for clothes really, usually markets again or charity shop! Why is there no gift voucher for the local market

TBH I would do an online shop for him... include essentials but a few treats too. I would love someone to do that for me :D

I am about to place my order for a free £10 of stuff from milkandmore website but can't decide what to order :D Do love a freebie :D
  • I know what your saying about the cash gifts, im guilty of spending any cash gifts for birthdays ect ive had in the past on either the kids or bills instead....
Like the others have posted you could send him a hamper style gift, i dont shop much online, but would imagine they normally request a minimum order so dont know if £20 would be enough?

You could also make him one up yourself and send it, but then this would proberly take a good chunk of the £20 in postage

A magazine subscription? you can normally get good deals and go through quidco to buy them, would also be a little something to look forward to each month.

do you live anywhere close? You could do a gift-in-kind voucher - promise to do his ironing or something?

Is there a local Tesco, Salisbury's, Asda etc in his area?
See if you could place an order to be delivered to him with food items. Have a delivery at the right time and it will be free or only a few £'s.
Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.
  • A twenty pound Tesco shop would go a long way if you stock him up on the essentials and a few little niceties :)
