I AM SO ANGRY!! I travelled an hour to go to Debenhams at Ocean Terminal (Edinburgh) because they sell Chanel make up there, and I wanted a lipgloss.

I got there, handed over my text message code, and she said she needed me to print it out so she could put it through. I even spoke to some other woman too and she said the same thing.

I told them that it says in the T&C that I can just hand over the phone adn they can take that :(

I am going to email debenhams cause I'm so angry. Such a wasted journey.
We have used 3 txt ones today. Just had to read them the codes out??? You must have just got someone that did not know what they were on about.

Are the barcoded vouchers not being accepted any more? My aunt was planning a trip into town with her one and her OH. Can anyone report back on this, so that I can tell them. Thanks
i had mines accepted today with the barcode ..young SA had to ask one of the older SA'a how to do it something to do with the fisrt two numbers
  • How random, you should have asked him if they could print it out for you there as your phone doesn't have a bult in printer lol

Obviously staff must be very spoilt to have phones with printers!! What an incentive to work for Debenhams :rotfl:

It wasn't even random. I had 3 text vouchers and on all 3 occasions I was asked to print the text out. I have a very old black and white Nokia. I really don't know how they expected me to print the text out, especially on the ancient phone. Upon asking the SA's how to print the text out, the answer I received was always *shrug*, ''I don't know'' - :T

But on all 3 occasions, they eventually accepted it after consulting a manager.

I also had 1 paper voucher left over and the SUPERVISOR was unsure as to whether I could use it on a £5.00 spend. She took forever to go and consult with the manager or whatnot.

I am sure that you are very peed off, lots of us have encountered SAs who have bene awkward/not been trained in how to deal with these vouchers. I mean, asking you to print a text message!!!

I hope that you have a positive response from Debenhams.

However, I did wonder whether it was worth travelling an hour to save £5. Did it not cost you at least £5 to get there and back i.e. would you have been better off ordering it online with 15% off code and free del? Also, when the SA refused, did you try another till? Please don't take offence, I am just asking and trying to help others who may face the same problem. :)

Anyway, good luck with your CS complaint and keep us posted.

Yeah, thanks :) She went and asked another 2 SA's to see what they said and they all said the same thing, they said I must have receieved a code via email too, I showed them my GMAIL account which showed no code.

But yeah, I have a bus pass so that's why I used it, I just want the one thing which is £19 so by using the code and my beauty points it would've only cost £4.

Do you know when it expires? I dont know if I'll be able to get down there before it does :(

It's valid till 12 November, so almost another week - hope you get to use it! Would be a bargain for £4 alright.

I don't know why they bother with texts if their staff don't know how to deal with it. What store was it?

Today, I got a text message with a £5 off code which I could use in store.

I took the 35 LRT bus (1hour journery) to get to the store to purchase Chanel Glossimer in Pink Pulsion.

So, I arrive, drooling over all the pretty things at the Chanel counter and tell the assistant I would like to purchase the lipgloss, and that I have a £5 code which I would like to use.

I show her my phone with the text message from Debenhams for my £5 off to be told that I need to print off my text message so that she can keep it in the till.

I told her that in the terms and conditions it said that I can just show her and she would be able to appl it off my purchase. She proceeds to tell me that she is going to go and ask her colleague, which she does, and then returns to tell me that I should have received an email with the voucher which I needed to print.

With my trusty iphone at my side, I show her my email and let her see that I've not received any email codes from Debenhams for this amazing offer.

She pretty much told me that I'm wrong and can't they can't apply it without it physically being in my hand (the voucher).

I was so angry. I purchase lots from Debenhams, which you can probably see from my account, and I travelled 2 hours in total to purchase it as it's the only Debenhams here in Edinburgh which sells Chanel.

I will probably miss out on this code now as I wont be able to get down there again before the 12th November.

I really hope that Debenhams trains their staff members well in relation to applying codes and any offers you might have (special ones like this). I work in retail myself so realise it's not necessarily the SA's fault if they've not been informed that it can be applied without a physical voucher.

    I await your response.
    Many thanks,
    Katie
