I have never seen the point of a Golf Plus to be honest, I would just go for a Golf Estate, but if it fits what you want then check residuals before you buy. Though I must admit that I like the look of the Altea.

As far as Car Giant goes I have bought many cars from them (when I wanted a car on finance rather than auction buying) and checked out several cars there for friends, it is a basic buying experience and they tend to give bottom book for trade ins.

But if you haven't got the experience to buy at auction then they are a good bet, and they have a good selection of stock, just don't expect the main dealer experience, it is a stack 'em high sell 'em cheap sort of a place.

What is your rational in getting a Golf PLus, as a Touran may be a better bet as far as residuals go, and at least has seven seats, though i have been told it is available with five seats for those with money to lose.

bigji thanks for that info husband has a disability that makes it hard to bend to get into the car and as the golf plus is taller thought it would be ideal.would not get one on the motability scheme as they want 4 grand advance ouch so looking at used.not thought of the altea so will give them a look.thanks

If easy access is needed then I would go for something like a Touran or C-Max, we have Zafiras at work and ours are design spec and not that easy to get out of, make sure you have a good sit in one before you buy.

One, completely leftfield choice would be an ex Addison Lee VW Sharon, they sell 57 plate Black Sharons with the 115 engine and an Autobox for between 6 and 7 grand.

They sell them at between 80k and 100k, they are well serviced and the minicab past is not hidden, the Sharon is really easy to get into and out of.

They have a depot near Camden, and a lot of minicab drivers buy these to put back to work, they are strong an dreliable, they also look after them well due to the large number of corporate accounts they service.

The stock varies from week to week but they still have about 800 on the fleet, slowly being replaced by the new shape Ford Galaxy.

I like Golf Pluses, although I've never owned one. They are slower, thirstier and more expensive than the golf and the residuals are worse. However (and this is a big deal for me) the interior is perfect for lanky people like me - I don't have my knees up in the air trying to get a comfortable driving position and anyone sitting behind me has a fighting chance of getting in the car. The extra height is all taken up below the seat so the seating position is more chair-like and it makes it much easier to get in and out.

The boot is also slightly taller so you can fit more stuff in.
The Seat Altea is pretty much identical size and engine wise but the suspension is far too hard and the car has far too much road noise compared to the Golf.

Dave, we bought a new one last year and its fabulous. We have always had Golfs but as OH now has a back problem, we tried the plus and it is SO much easier to get in and out of. You virtually sit and just swing your legs in. Lots of space and lots of storage too.

We have the 1.6 diesel and it is very economical indeed and so quiet and very comfortable - oh and it parks itself :). Its hard to believe its a diesel. The 2 litre was so powerful I got g-forces as I drove off, lol, so decided on the 1.6 instead. . Everyone who we have given a lift in it have loved it and one person has already swopped their car ( a Merc) for a Plus.

Try them out and enjoy :)

Im surprised the car dealer on here is scathing as a car dealer friend of ours actually got a Golf Plus for his wife as he thinks they are great. The added bonus for them is the rear seats push forward to house their huge hounds :)

Google Golf Plus reviews for others thoughts.
