ok, we tried again without the new ram and it worked. Put the ram back in and its freezing again on the same screen as before.:mad:

Do you think it could be a problem with the ram ? We took advice from here and bought it from crucial.

Did you run Crucial's scanner and buy the recommended type of memory? If so, ring Customer Services and explain the problem. They may tell you to return it.

    Definitely sounds odd.

What would help us here is details of EXACTLY what PC you have (make/model or motherboard)
    exactly what RAM you purchased
rough description of what you had to begin with.
and did you use the crucial tool to ID what RAM is compatible, if so what did it say?

someone can probably help you check compatibility there.

Finally I'd suggest the default position is make sure you get an RMA from crucial and prepare to return the RAM to them for a refund in the event it turns out to be incompatible.

Recently had to do this myself after finding even though crucial's tool told me my chipset could handle 4GB ram it would refuse to boot and I eventually tracked it down to my specific laptop having a hardware limit of 3GB, crucial were happy to refund my £80 (including next day delivery fees) and I'll be putting the money towards a new machine instead :)

Thanks for all your help guys, just spoke to crucial. Who advised we update the BIOS from the foxconn website as we now know there is nothing wrong with the new RAM. We removed the old ram an the pc booted fine with just the new one in !

Just in the process of doing this so will report back...........

Have you tried removing the OLD ram and just using the NEW ram in its place? (Some computers dont like mixed ram)

Chances of you ever getting both to work are very slim

Youd be better buying more of the same ram from crucial
