sexymouse, I love the sound of the soup, the toad in the hole and the lemon posset. Just to be awkward ;) Think the toad in the hole with fab gravy is more likely to wow them. Is it too much work though?

    You've made me hungry!

    You've made me hungry!

Don't worry, I'm happy to listen to suggestions for swapping around.

Things I can make in advance - batter (needs to stand anyway), gravy (will just need heating up when it's made), lemon posset (this is really easy), suppose the soup could be made the night before.

I will be making mash to go with the toad in the hole on the day, hence why I thought it may be a bit heavy to have a starter too, but I suppose I could always serve smaller portions.

If I get up early, I could probably do some of the bits in the morning (batter and posset maybe), as I may be working on the Friday so don't want to give myself too much to do the night before.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

Last load of washing in now before cleaning it out after the dogs blanket is finished

Just waiting another hour for the Christmas Cakes to finish along with the BM.

Have created 3 full bottles of blackberry and apple flavoured gin maturing away now :j

Decluttered soup and Christmas muffins for late lunch and it's a leftover easy reheat tea tonight as couldn't use the oven to cook a 6hr pork shoulder today as the cakes are baking. Will be a bit more organised next weekend for the last 2 cakes and not do this on the same day!

Just deciding whether to have a go at some beetroot and ginger chutney making as I delay my assignment reading for another couple of hours :o

Yes, I think I will, and use up some of the Bramleys in the kitchen

See you all in a couple of hours or so

Looking forward to flying with a vengeance next week! Be gone germs...this house is going to be Dettol-ed to within an inch of its life tomorrow! Have opened windows today so hope that will help! Have managed to clean the fish tank today which should have been an hour job ended up taking 3 as needed new bulb and filter but first shop didn't have them so had to go somewhere else then stopped off at a friends and had a cheeky vodka!! Have managed to catch up with all washing but just needs ironing. DD1 made a small dent in the mountain last night but she gets fed up! Roast chicken in the oven. One of our rabbits has managed to bite a hole in the hutch unknown to us and escaped through it. Been on the run for 4 days now. Has been spotted in the vicinity but be damned if anyone can catch it so at a loss what to do. My dad bringing a net round!!!:rotfl: Going to clean the bathrooms now then put the veg on.

    Love to all.xx

Hi all, currently resting as just back from an engagement party in Essex, great night but long drive there and back.

Hubby didn't go to bed so I had to pour him into the camper this morning with the aid of some friends.

DD1 fell down an uncovered drain and heavily bruised her foot and spent till 6am in a&e waiting to be seen to. She has very bad swelling on the sole of her foot and around her ankle plus her foot is 3 times the size it should be...not good.

DD2 is out with her friends at a local halloween do, I have collected 6 eggs as nobody had picked them out of the chicken coop.

The kitchen is a bombsite so I've slammed in the lamb....in the oven...and I will commence 'Operation clean up the hellhole' after when the hot water bottle currently soothing my poorly stomach does its job.

Great to hear from you Soappie, loving the expanding family...kittens...aww.

Toots, you sound like you need to maybe have a little peace hun, hope you get some. xxx

Oh and I have an eye infection, may need the docs as its hurting.

    1. Starter - HM curried butternut squash soup; Main - HM veggie chilli, jacket potatoes, sour cream & corn on the cob; Dessert - HM Lemon posset and shop ginger nut biscuits.
    2. No starter; Main - HM veggie toad in the hole, apple & onion cider gravy, mash & broccoli; Dessert - Delia's HM ginger & apple puds with cream.

I agree with seafarers_wife. I think option 1 sounds really nice and it would help you to prepare in advance
