Gap in mobile phone market

There is good [as per my guess] market for following mobile products yet no one seem to offer them [at a major scale]

  • Phone with dual SIMs [some cheap Chinese manufactures offer them - not by mainstream brands] - so that you carry personal & office SIM in one phone
  • Shared minutes among multiple numbers [as discussed already]
  • Very cheap unit rate [e.g. 0.5p/min] instead of bundled minutes
The reason is these plans are beneficial for consumers but not network operators.

:(
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

Samsung, Nokia and LG make dual SIM handsets.

Business accounts allow the sharing of minutes amongst multiple numbers.

You won't see rates as low as 0.5p a minute as it costs more than this to provide the call. (the termination rate set by Ofcom is several times that rate on its own)

Techhead has spoken the main points.

Duel sim phones do exist, but most people don't use/demand them so don't expect alot of them on the market.

Sharing minutes is on business accounts, and has at times creeped into the consumer market as family packages.

You won't see call rates that low, if you want something closer to it you need to go with data connection VOIP calls, like services provided by skype. Get yourself a big data allowence and pay skype instead to bring down the cost per minute. Personally for most consumers the allowances will be best.
Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies

You can get much lover rates on some corporate business plans, where there is a low per minute call rate, no line rental and you have to pay a lot more for even the most basic of handset.

However your not likey to get than on small business or consumer tarriffs.

    Like I said.

    Answer is zero.

The op mentioned 0.5p per min. 8p per min is well over ten times that.

  • I'd love to see phone number 'aliases' like you can have for email addresses.
i.e. mail can be sent to multiple email addresses but all redirected into the same account.

It would be brilliant if we could have free/very cheap and easy to set up - essentially call forwarding - on multiple numbers without the sim card having to be inside a phone.
