Health & Safety gone mad ?

Went to McDonalds Drive Thru in Skeggy today to get a coffee to try and warm up (its been freezing today !), got to the window in the car and the chap serving was putting it in a cup tray, i told him i didn't need one and he said i couldn't have my drink unless it was served in a tray because of health and safety :rotfl:

I noticed they were not serving customers inside with cup holders and cant quite grasp how they need it in the drive thru !

When i got home i put the tray in the recycler, just seems a utter waste to me.

  • If the guy had handed you the coffee without a tray and it had got spilt and burned you then you could have sued the company

    They're just playing safe!

This sort of thing reals gets my goat!

The cup is designed to hold a hot liquid, and therefore should be sufficient for passing it between people. Next time I'd ask to see the risk assessment for the activity, just to be really annoying. You have a right to see it and they shouldn't withhold the information.

There again, Mcd's coffee is rubbish whether it is hot or cold!

If that were the case they would have every coffee including inside with a tray wouldn't they ?

I got to loads of different McD's about 4-5 times a week for coffee when im travelling around the country and never had this before.
  • I would imagine it all stems from Liebeck v. McDonald's Restaurants.

Yep, i'm sure that'll really annoy the guy. 10 mins away searching for the info needed whilst your sitting there coffeeless, probably using a drivethru as your in a hurry.
    That'll teach them.

I've read that and it is typical Health and Safety crazyness, a drink is HOT, its not that hard to understand!!!!!
The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!

Would they not just sit it on the counter? or if you're after more than a coffee, the plastic tray you'll use to carry your order.

They usually hand it to you at the counter

Even if you've meals? Any time I've bought anything from Mcdonalds, it's been placed on a tray.
It's similar in aeroplanes. As I'm sitting, I place my empty cup on a tray, they move it away from over me, pour it and offer it back to me.
I then lift it off. If I get scalded, chances are its my fault.
It's got nothing to do with health and safety and everything to do with compensation.
