My son who is 7 now, always used to tell us he had seen a dead rainbow, it took us ages to work out what he was on about, it was a oil patch in the road!!!!

When my DD (now 28) was little she used to go on all the time about "tiny little mints on the floor". I used to think she was talking about Tic-Tac sweets and used to just say something along the lines of "never mind I'll clear them up later". It was quite a while until we realised she was talking about ANTS.

My favourite though is when my EXH was teasing DS (aged then about 4 or 5) - "I know what Father Christmas has got you for Christmas" says EXH. Ds looked quite serious - "Don't tell me, it's a secret. You have to tell yourself". We still use the saying now nearly 30 years later.

My sister wanted to cut my nephew's hair. She also used to cut our dad's hair. She tried to coax him by saying "don't worry, I'll cut it just like granddad's" Reluctantly he said "ok, but I don't want the hole in the middle!"

another time I was in a shoe shop with my son who was around 6 at the time and he passed me this huge bogey. I was telling him off saying, "don't do that again and if you need a hanky or to blow your nose just ask mummy first". He replied "oh no mum, its not mine, I found it under the seat when I was trying on shoes!" I felt sick but still find it funny even now and he is all grown up.

    Not funny really, but memorable:

DS age 5 or 6 : 'grandpa, what did they do to great grandma at her funeral?'

To my surprise, gpa was not thrown at all, but explained carefully and truthfully.
  • This thread made me think of my eldest daughter who's almost 40 now.
The day she started infants school,(she never went to nursery at all)the teacher pulled me to one side when I went to pick her up.
She said could I have a word with my daughter as she does'nt seem to accept she's part of the class.
I asked what she mean't and she said "well when playtime came I found her drinking her milk and playing quietly by herself in the classroom whilst all the other children were outside in the playground" I asked what the problem with that was and she said "well when I told her to go out to play she replied good god no way,I can't stand the noise. How do you put up with all those awful noisy children".
It made me giggle, much to the teachers annoyance, she obviously could'nt see the funny side of it.
My daughter still likes her peace and quiet even now.

Today I heard my grandson, when asked by his dad, what they should use for the snowman's eyes, he replied "Poo"

    I just had to laugh

Our 5 year old Granddaughter has lost both of her Great Grandparents. She told everyone that Great Grandpa was a star and she could see him by looking up into the sky. She is now worried that her Great Grandma will not be able to find him with the huge number of stars she can see.
