New Combi Boiler Settings!?

Hi Guys

I have just bought an Ideal Esprit 2 combi boiler which is sedbuk A efficiency.

Had it installed now but was just wondering what you would reccommend for the heating temperature setting and also the tap hot water settings? At the moment its about 60c for both, we could go lower but want to know whats best?

Also we have a water meter, are there other settings that work around a water meter? any help much appreciated!!!! :D

Set HW to about 55c and leave the heating at about 60c. If you get warm enough, quick enough then leave the heating set at this, as this will help keep the boiler condensing more and longer.

    Ok thanks for the reply!!

What about having a water meter, I heard there is some way you can reduce the amount of water which is drawn in through the combi, a plumber told me this a while back??

I think the hot water must be set to 60 to prevent legionaires disease as well. Best to check it out.

Legionaires disease doesn't come into it with a combi. Only stored hot water cylinders need the temp to be at 60c.

Most modern controls have an anti legionaires cycle built in, so once a week they can be set to heat the water to around 80c to sterilise the tank so to speak.

A water meter does not reduce the flow from your water main. A combi controls it's own output flow rate in order to maintain the same hot water temp that you have selected.

I think the post was refering to the pre-heat setting on a combi. In theory the boiler fires every so often just to keep the plate warm, so the time taken to deliver hot water to the tap is less, therefore reducing the amount of water wasted whilst witing for the hot water.

I personally keep this function turned off as the cost of gas used outweighs the slight water saving these days.
