Hi Everyone,
I am very new to this (my 1st post) my lovely bride to be and myself plan to marry on the 1st october 2011 @ 3pm in Kings Lynn, norfolk.
We have had to cut down our budget for the whole wedding due to my ill health and now on long term sick from work. just to get by week to week on stat sick pay does not pop any pennies into the wedding fund.
i ask your help with advice on the meals.
would a starter of soup and for main BBQ with wedding cup cakes be good enough for the wedding breakfast??
or second idea was to replace the BBQ with Baked Pots with various fillings.
we have a budget of £5 per head for it.
also for evening buffett we have a budget of £250 for 150 guests. will do it ourselves to cut catering costs but can it be done??
and what could we do for the buffett??
thank you for reading this.

P.S. Any help for cost cutting but making the reception look great would be great too.
our colours are Hot Pink and Black.. with Hot pink Gerbera as the main flower0 -
Under the circumstances why not just have like a disco for the evening and not have a buffet at all.
If you are ill you really dont need the extra stress of doing it yourselves.
Im sure your friends and family will understand.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Why not ask some friends to provide some food for the wedding instead of giving presents?" The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

Or you could do like we are and have a later ceremony so that the wedding breakfast is at tea time, with the evening guests being invited to join us for drinks & cake. Cuts down some of the cost, or if you really want an evening buffet that way you only really have to cater for the guests joining you, rather than daytime guests + evening guests.Mortgage: [STRIKE]08/13 £28,896.49[/STRIKE] 01/18 £00

Just a couple of quick questions... are you catering the breakfast yourself or family/friends doing it? Do you have a preferred theme for the meals? Do you know anyone with a costco or Macro card? As that will bring the unit/per person price down.
If it is self catered how about:
Starters
Soup and a roll
Garlic mushrooms on toast
Tomato and basil brushetta
Chicken wings
Main Course
Pasta and Tomato sauce or Pasta and Pesto
Tuna pasta
Cheapy Carbonara (Pasta, soft cheese, mushrooms and bacon bits)
Chicken risotto
Curry
Chilli con Carne
Stew and Yorkshires
These are just a few I can think of. I have also found some cheap meal threads on here. Feed 6 for £1.62, Meal ideas under £1, Cheapest Meal.
For Buffet:
Pizza - Home made
Salad
Rice salad
Sandwiches - cheese, egg mayo, ham.
Vol au vents
Dips
Sausage rolls
If you post in Old style moneysaving taht you need to feed x people 3 courses for £5 a head I am sure you will be bombarded with recipes

A bbq is more for a summer wedding? might be a bit cold in October. Can you not reduce wedding numbers rather than have 150 people in the evening?0
-
We hired a fish and chip van for the evening, they were brilliant and no washing up.
It wasn't a posh do, though, we also had ferret racing!!Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -
the 150 is just for the evening. the wedding breakfast is 60 persons.
we have already had to cut the numbers down.
the wedding breakfast will be done by the caterers that the venue approve, the venue will not allow anyone else to use the kitchen facilities.
dont know anyone with a costco or macro card. not sure if there is one within 50 miles from kings lynn anyway.0 -
Can you do a roast rather than a bbq? Have you spoken to the venue about cutting the cost? What about bacon butties for the evening do? I am having someone do my butties for the evening then we're doing everything else, just because it would be too difficult to make them on the day0

bacon butties for the evening do is such a good idea! exactly what you need when you're feeling drunk! i went to a wedding that did this!0
